Tequilas Mexican Restaurant on Baumgartner: Come for the Monster Burrito, Stay Because You Can’t Move
Let’s talk about my favorite form of self-care: the Monster Burrito from Tequilas. This thing is not a meal — it’s a challenge, a spiritual journey, and maybe a cry for help. But I love it. Deeply.
Wrapped in a tortilla that could double as a sleeping bag, this behemoth is packed with meat, rice, beans, veggies, and dreams. But the real star? That queso. Ohhh that queso. It’s not just cheese — it’s a smooth, melty masterpiece that makes me question why every other restaurant is holding out on me. Tequilas is the only place bold enough to drown a burrito in cheese glory like this. God bless them.
And the price? Beautiful. I don’t know how they do it. You get enough food to feed a small village for the price of a fancy coffee. I’d like to personally shake the hand of whoever priced this menu.
Now let’s talk about the decor. They recently remodeled, and honey — it shows. It’s got that “clean, colorful, fiesta-but-make-it-classy” vibe that makes you want to take selfies between bites of salsa.
The staff? Absolute gems. Super friendly, lightning fast, and somehow unfazed by the sheer volume of food I ordered like I was training for a burrito marathon.
Bottom line: If you’re looking for flavor, fun, and a burrito the size of your forearm — Tequilas is the place. Just make peace with the fact that you’re going to need a...
Read moreTequila Mexican doesn't do anything wrong really but it also doesn't do anything really well either. The food is what you would expect of speed reheated mexican; the refried beans are liquidy, the fajita chicken is bland as if the flavor steamed off. The chips are broken, the horchata is bland enough to just pass as skim milk and really was so poor that it might just be better to take it off the menu which I can't believe I am suggesting.
The salsa was nice and balanced, the taquitoes are fun but not really enough to make this drive worthy. The pico was fresh and the avacado green but whipped to an inch of its life to taste slightly plastic.
The decor is nice, especially the post contemporary pop takes on mexican paintings. They should have leaned more on that theme. The lighting is also well done creating a intimate booth experience with the oversize leather seating.
The service is drone like with servers talking in hushed flat emotionless tones of "do you want anything; care for dessert, thank you". Not bad service at all but robots could have delivered just as well and spoken up.
Its ok, there are much worse but also much better. They could do a little nip and tuck on the menu to really go up a...
Read moreThis place is really starting to slide. We were there Saturday night, and the girl was just horrible. She never brought our cheese dip appetizer, never got around to refills, and were just rude when she came to the table. Fine, whatever, she was having a bad night, maybe. It used to be that tequilas was good, fast, and on their fiesta menu. They were affordable. Well gone are those days. The food is still good but the low cost and good service is history. Tonight, i go in there to finally get the cheese dip that they forgot Saturday night, and they give one little half a filled bag of chips. I asked for another bag, and he wants to charge me $3.76.... for something i should have had included Saturday. It's stupid. I have to pay for salsa when i just want chips and cheese dip after a bad day of work. Well, after decades of tequilas being my families go-to mexican, i think it's time we start exploring...
