I am bumping up the rating from 1 to 4 stars. After Tony's reply to my original post, I decided to give Piesanos another try. We walked in and asked the hostess we'd not like to sit in Danyel's section. She seated us immediately. This time our server was Polina a friendly and experienced server. I had a good feeling about her as soon as I saw her writing down our order; instead of relying on her memory like some others do. She paid attention and is a good listener. In addition, she was, periodically, checking with us to make sure we are taken care of properly.
The order was 100% accurate; cooked as requested and fresh. See the picture, NOT FLOPPY!
I'll be glad to change it to 5-stars as soon as I know, for sure, the food is consistent when I visit this place the next few times.
Original Review: Nothing Consistent! I have been here a few times now and my food is never the same quality. For instance, today, your food might tastes delicious, the next week, you order the same dish and the chances are, the food won't taste the same. In my case, Pizza is hot and cooked properly one day and then the next time it is saggy, floppy, and dough under-cooked. The service and the food both are hit or miss at this location on SW 42nd St. My last visit was as pleasant as a root-canal.
On the service side, I have experienced this for years (at many many restaurants) where a server relies solely on their memory, does not write down the order, and the order has problems when it hits the table . Our server, Danyel, did not seem to care that our food was cooked improperly or it took a long time to reach our table. Place was not very busy, phone was not ringing off the hook, and the pickup side did not seem hectic, but, our food took an exceptionally long period of time.
When the server noticed we were annoyed by all this, instead of apologizing she walked behind the bar and talked about us (while rolling her eyes) with another employee (with a maroon shirt. Possibly a manager) where we could hear her.
When our server took the order, she did not write anything down, so, when the order arrived 50 minutes later, it had errors. Yes, she is as sharp as a marsh-mellow...we ended up with floppy pizzas; not well done like we asked. We requested light cheese and there was so much cheese that we had to take some off of our slices with our forks. The shrimp scampi sauce was thin, watery, and shrimp were barely cooked. Had she jotted down what we ordered, I'm confident I would be writing a rave review at this moment instead.
Even though Ocala restaurants are self sufficient in servers with negative attitudes, I personally think if you are a miserable individual and have no basic "people skills," you shouldn't be allowed to work anywhere people...
Read moreI live out-of-state, but travel to Florida frequently for business. I tried Piesano's for the first time on my last visit and thought it was fabulous and I wrote a Google Review stating as such.
On this visit, I was SO looking forward to this delicious pizza and salad that I had on my last visit. So I went online and ordered a small Italian Salad and a 12" Supreme Pizza (8-pieces). The website said our pizza would be ready in 25 minutes, but I needed to pick it up later, so I called the restaurant and asked that they hold off and have it ready at a certain time. They said no problem, they would let the kitchen know. Great right? Um. NO.
We pick up the order at the time I told them and brought it directly back to the house. The salad was so small with one small slice of provolone cheese, one small slice of salami and a half a slice of ham. There was one green olive, one kalamata olive., 2 tiny pieces of artichoke hearts, 3 cherry tomatoes, and a bunch of red onion and mixed greens. I wish I had a picture of the actual salad, but I am showing a picture of the size of the container that they charged me almost $9.00 for. Not saying the salad wasn't delicious. It was. But seriously??? 9 Bucks for a salad that small? No. Just no.
The pizza was ice-cold. Not even a bit warmth to it at all, so I know they didn't wait to make it for a later pick up like I had asked. And you can't microwave pizza - if you know, you know. The crust gets rubbery and ruins it. We did throw it in the oven and it was very good, but if I had wanted to stoke up the oven and cook, I wouldn't have ordered pizza in the first place. We weren't too thrilled about that.
I called the manager, but he was of no help at all. I started off telling him about the salad and that I thought I got a dinner salad instead of the small Italian salad and I wanted him to credit my card the difference. Imagine my surprise when he told me that what I received WAS the small salad!! I was so shocked that I hung up before telling him about the cold pizza, but by this time, I was so disillusioned with the whole experience, I didn't even call back.
So, for a grand total of $32.94 with tax and tip, we had a teensy weensy salad and ice-cold pizza. I have no problem paying for a good meal, but this salad was nothing special to warrant the price. Due to this, we decided that Piesano's will not be on our list of favorites for the duration of this month's visit or any future visits either. The food is good, but DEFINITELY not THAT good. And should you decide to go, I would call and not use the online ordering. It isn't very...
Read moreOverall a good experience but just underwhelming for what tries to come off as a nicer place. Staff was friendly and once we ordered food came out quickly. We ordered quite a bit to have leftovers for lunch. We like trying many things. Started with a Fat Tire on draft and my fiancé had a cucumber martini. Beer was cold with good head. Martini was fresh and balanced. Ordered giant meatball appetizer and cheese bread. Meatball was ok but presentation was better just missed out on overall taste. The cheese bread was a large portion but at $11.99 you should just order a personal 8” cheese pizza sauce on the side for $6.99 honestly. My fiancé had the summer salad with chicken which she really enjoyed. I had a side salad which was good with a nice house Italian dressing and crunchy croutons. We ordered an ultra thin medium Pizza Antico which boasts fresh mozzarella, mini cup & char pepperoni & fresh basil. We named this pizza Antico which means antique because we use the same fresh mozzarella, mini cup & char pepperoni the first pizzerias used in NY since 1905. With the story, you really set the tone for one of the best pizzas but I have two issues. One: this isn’t my first visit and every time I find the pizzas to be undercooked on the top side of the dough. Two: there’s an overwhelming amount of toppings. I think these two things come hand in hand. Too much on top creates issues cooking the dough through. They did take it back to cook longer but then what I assume to be a manager brings it back and makes sure to emphasize that it was our preference to have it well done to avoid taking any responsibility. Anyways we did have two pasta entrees as well with the penne al a vodka with chicken and a fettuccine bolognese. You can tell the chicken is reheated and not freshly grilled which is disappointing for what you would expect at a place like this. Bolognese was tasty and I did enjoy this dish. Like I said we did enjoy ourselves but some things seemed to be unnecessarily mediocre. I find there might be efficiencies that are effecting the overall execution. Hope this actually helps and I inspire someone to do something more than copy and paste the...
