Yummy House Ocala — Restaurant in Ocala

We went to The Yummy House on 200 today and we were very disappointed with our visit. When we walked in there was one couple ahead of us. There were several empty tables. The couple before us didn’t want the two seat table they offered at the front of the restaurant so they gave it to a couple that walked in after us. That was ok because we were a party of three. Mind you there are still several 4 seat tables that were not being used at this time. The couple before us got seated at a different table. Meanwhile another family of 4 came in as well as well as another couple and a few more people after that. The host seated the family of 4 that came in after us just after someone told them we were there first. They continued to ignore us and just welcome new people in and by passing us yet again. That is when we walked out. I called the number on the website to complain and got a menu that had me pick a location and Ocala wasn’t even on the list. I picked Gainesville and got someone who could not understand me when I asked for a Manager or the number to the corporate office location. We have eaten in Ocala one other time and it was fantastic it is too bad that this experience has made me decide I will not be returning to The Yummy House in Ocala. They need to train their Host to be more aware and to pay attention to the customers. I use to refer people to The Yummy House on 200. I will not do that anymore no matter how much I liked the food the first time I was there. Customer service was not even offered today in my opinion and we never made it to the food. The host walked past us as we were leaving and didn’t even try to stop us or ask why we were leaving. . Since the posting requires me to give a star I had to put one otherwise there would be ZERO stars...

We ate here a while back and the food was very well prepared. So for our 48th anniversary we decided to return. We wish now we'd gone elsewhere. I ordered spicy shrimp and scallops with snow peas in their "world famous" xo sauce, and egg drop soup. Hubs ordered cashew chicken, along with the soup, which comes in a large bowl with a ladle for sharing. We'll start with the good. Our server, was friendly and checked back with us a few times during our dinner. The vegetables in all dishes were fresh and vibrant. That's it for the good. The soup was opaque white with lots of vegetables. They were good, but it was as if they forgot to use chicken broth, so other than the veggies it was totally tasteless. My dish that was supposed to be spicy, was not. I make chili with more heat than that dish. The shrimp and scallops were tasteless. Snow peas were perfect, but if that dish had any sauce on it, I missed it. The dish was so bland I had to try and make it more flavorful with pepper and soy sauce, but it was useless, it was just blah. If my husband hadn't confirmed that his was equally lacking any flavor other than the veggies I swear he and I had come down with Covid and lost our sense of taste. 2 dishes and soup came to almost $60.00. We've gotten vastly better chinese food at our local China 1. We will not go back. Obviously there was a chef...

I love Chinese food. But when I go to the restaurant, I expect it to be better than Panda Express, you know? This place isn't. I mean, waiters super nice, atmosphere is nice, but food... Tofu soup with egg drops - normally tofu soup broth has color, it's kind of muddy greenish- beige, and a flavor. Egg drop soup usually transparent, but brown color. How come Tofu and egg drop soup is transparent and has no color, crystal clear? It thick, like glue, it has algae , Tofu and egg drops in it, but has no color and no flavor , like starch glue. Orange chicken very yellow, sloppy and tastes like lemon bar cake, not like orange chicken...what they put in it, cake flavoring?! Sesame chicken is ok- ish, lacking flavor but at least cooked well, no added colors and has some decent crust. Cooked mixes vegetables for some reason has that thick glue- like transparent slop on them and tastes like vinegar...if I order vegetables, I do expect them taste like vegetables, really. Or like broth...but not like vinegar. Broccoli beef is ok. Overall- good fresh ingredients, but what they have done with it - not impressive. Should cut on starch and add...
