On our 3rd date, my girlfriend and I visited the Front Street Cafe and can not say enough about this place. To start, the owner, Bob, greeted us "the love birds" on the street, walked us in as he told us about the place, the live music playing out back, showed us to a table and introduced us to others sitting nearby. We were so surprised at how friendly everyone was and we felt extremely comfortable and at home from the start. We played it safe and both got a Caesar Salad which was fresh and tasteful. The atmosphere was busy but you could tell that everyone in the place was having a great evening. We left that evening and could not stop talking about our experience, the staff and when we were going to come back. This was in October 2015.
Though we've been back to visit New Richmond several times over the last seven months, this Saturday was the first time we've been able to get back to the Cafe. That being said, if we could change anything, it would be to have later hours on Sunday. If for no other reason, for those love birds that never know when they're going to drop in to see you! :)
As for our visit Saturday night, it was exactly as we expected. We walked in the door 7 months later and Bob remembered us as if we were there last week. He has to be one of the nicest and kindest people we've met and is by far the best part of the cafe. We were seated immediately and both had dinner this time, the Ribeye and the Chicken Marsala. What can I say, it was delicious. We both thoroughly enjoyed our meals and the entire experience again. There's something to be said about finding a restaurant with over-the-top good food but to have the added bonus of the personal touch that Bob adds, this place is priceless.
We strongly recommend this place. Do what we do, go early and walk around or plan on walking around afterwards. The town itself it top notch as well with its small town charm and romantic setting along the river. You'll see families out walking with their children, kids playing in the park, ducks to feed and a peacock. Yes, I said peacock! We even did a little research to find out that the peacock, Jacob, is a local celebrity there in New Richmond.
May well be our favorite date...
Read moreAt first, we thought it a quaint place from the outside. Once we walked in, the tables are jammed right to the entrance and you have literally 5 feet of walking space to stand while a hostess will eventually get to you (the first time, we waited 7 minutes). Finally, the owner seats us at a table. We waited for 10 minutes, and after no service, walked out and said we'd come back later. We revisited 2 hours later, and the the tiny little place had a band, this time, as soon as you walk in. I could have shaken hands with the lead singer as soon as I stepped foot in the place. We waited about 5 minutes, then a small Asian woman rushed over to us and 'shooed' her hand, "We have no tables. You leave now," she said angrily. ""I laughed, thinking this can't be real. "Is there a wait list?" I asked. She replied, "No, no reservation, no table. All tables full. You go to another place." I was appalled by the rudeness and lack of customer service. Very unprofessional. The locals gave us a head's up that the place is over-priced and the food nasty, anyway. So, I guess, we actually saved our money and time by not going there. Thankfully, we walked just up the block, to the "GREEN KAYAK," with delicious food and the owners were fabulous! MUCH better MUSIC, too. Place to lounge, an awesome bar, large tables, not standing on top of each other tables, like Front Street Cafe. Head over the the green kayak and save your money and frustration from this place. Also, if you need a place to stay, the Green Kayak also has an AMAZING rental with a full kitchen and 2 bedrooms! AWESOME! Too bad Front Street has to reside in this...
Read moreThis place wasn't a good experience at all for what I would consider more of an upscale cafe. The spinach artichoke dip was so flavorless, and the bread chips were so hard you could have broken a tooth. Not to mention, we waited over 20 minutes to even get it. We had a sandwich thing it was called Hawaiian something I don't remember exactly what it was called. It was horrible. All you could taste was the pineapple. It came with chicken breast, which was only a thin slice of breast and a very thin slice of looked to be lunch meat ham. It's so thin you could see through it. We were seated on the patio out back with no access to the bathroom unless you walked all the way back around to the front of the building. There were apartments upstairs of this restaurant, and the residents literally had to walk through the customers' eating. We were sitting next to one of the doors of an apartment when one of the residents came down with a dog that had to stop and sniff my butt while I was eating. I don't mind dogs at all, but that's besides the point. I didn't find it at all appropriate for a restaurant to be set up like that. We were seated and given our drinks and never seen our waitress for over 20 minutes until another server overheard me complaining about how long it had been and was still waiting on the spinach artichoke dip. The bill was $50 for 2 sandwiches, 2 iced teas, and the dip. I DON'T RECOMMEND this...
