Coney's — Restaurant in Ohio

We tried out the New Coney’s today and unfortunately were disappointed. We asked if the gyro meat was shaved off the spit and were told yes but it doesn’t look like it was “freshly” shaved off the spit. I bit into my gyro, it felt like I bit a rock, the gyro meat was beyond crispy, it was burned and hard as a rock. Why would you even serve meat like that?? I would’ve said something but didn’t have more time to wait. We ordered 3 coney dogs, 1 gyro and a small fry. Chili wasn’t very flavorful and the fries were over cooked. After waiting 25 minutes (with only one couple in front of us who had already ordered and were waiting) the food was only lukewarm. It should’ve been hot after 25 minutes. I understand it’s a new place but 25 minutes for a hot dog is a bit long, after all that IS the main thing you sell. The place was clean and the staff were friendly. Unfortunately we won’t be back. I don’t recommend going here if you’re in a hurry. There was 6 different groups of people waiting after us, all for at least 20...

This visit was 8/28/23, early evening.

It use to be better here early on. Now the service is haphazard and the staff uncaring as an overall, my last two times visiting. Granted, they seemed short staffed frequently of late.

What happened?

I won't be back and I hate to say that. I love local businesses. This was also the the closest I got to Detroit coneys here in Youngstown, albeit off a bit for a Detroiter, but still! I ate it AND on more than one occasion AND told others to do so as well. Way back when.

But if the businesses representatives come across as not caring, imagine what the owners are like, that's what I say. I can spend my money elsewhere.

Then there is the quality. Once it was far better quality wise just spicy as a "coney sauce", more flavorful. Now it's tired, warm (like the fries, if they are not overcooked ), lacking anything specific or special and lame.

Update: I absolutely LOVE the milkshakes. Changed to a 5-star due to them getting the kinks worked out, i.e. food not too salty and coney dogs delicious! Also, they built a bar inside which should help business, I've seen it but not sure if it opened. Previous: Could be a five star. I love the coney sauce, ordered as a coney dog that comes with mustard and onion. The first time was perfect, second time too much mustard. I tried a hamburger and it was very salty...I don't know if this is the way they are or if it is just a matter of being a new restaurant in the area and working out the kinks. I love the fries ....but again, over salted. I am not one to complain about salty food usually, but these were way too salty. Strawberry milkshake was great! I'll update my review if things get a little better...as I will continue to support them and hopefully get it...
