OK, So, I've lived in Newark a couple of years and occasionally I see this little place (which is primarily hidden - if it weren't for the fact that I stopped to the restaurant next to them, I would have never known they existed). I called in and asked if they had a menu online. They told me no. I said Ok, what specials do you have? I ended up choosing their 17 inch pizza with everything on it and "cheesy" breadsticks. It was super cheap in price and I was shocked. So I said "will you please send a menu with the pizza so that I know what you have for the next order?" They tell me that they do not have any. Ok. So this is sort of a major turn off. I get it, small businesses... but it's free to put your menu online, even if it is on your facebook page.
Ok, so I asked to pay over the phone - they said they don't take credit cards. Ok... again small business whatever. I rush to call my husband to get cash from my sons piggy bank so we can pay for this pizza.
The pizza arrives, it's HUGE. The cheese sticks are just bread sticks with mozzarella on them (ok so we wont order those again), but the pizza is great. It had just the right amount of toppings, the flavor combination was awesome. We did add a little pizza seasoning, but that is because we tend to like ours with a little more kick than some people.
Bottom line - the pizza that I ordered was good. The price is good. The cons of this place is, unless you actually go in (which I am the type if I wanted to go in somewhere I would go to a nice sit down restaurant, not pizza), you wont find a menu for this restaurant. You have to pay cash.
Will I order again? Maybe, but unlikely ONLY because I am unable to get my hands on a menu. IF I find that a menu is uploaded for this establishment I will change my review because the pizza IS good. It's a shame to allow their rating to go down due to something so simple that they can...
Read moreThis is my favorite pizza in Newark, Pizza Cottage has great pizza too but are very pricey. This is the only place I know where they make their own dough, reminds me of the homemade crust my Dad made when I was a kid. the pizza is also baked in an old fashioned oven, the type where they have to watch for when it's done, not one put on a conveyor chain. The sauce is perfectly seasoned with great toppings. I like the all the way! one of the best prices in town as well, ask for their specials when you call... two extra large 17in. two toppings usually for just over $21, or two large 15" for under $19. I just ordered the 2-17" two topping special and had one made all the way for under $29. As far as I know they will also accept local area checks. Highly recommend! we've been ordering pizza from their Cedar St. location for about 20 years now, never had a problem with the help. we pick up now that we live out of town but they also...
Read moreI didn't want to put any stars but in order to be able to comment, I had to put 1 . Doug's pizza went down Hill so bad it isn't the same like it used to be.. pizza was barely warm, toppings was skimpy and the crust has changed and I will not be ordering anything from this establishment anymore! The pizza looks better in the picture than in person. I'm disappointed with Doug's point..this pizza was 20.00 for 2 toppings and I don't have no more words. Crust is to thick, they used to...
