Experiences like I had at the China Wok raise several whys? Why did I not trust my instincts and leave as soon as I walked in? Why am I not more skeptical of generic good reviews when I know that the 2 and 3 star reviews are usually the most helpful? Why does a restaurant like this stay open if this is their normal business model (have they no sense of communal decency?)?
I went to this restaurant at 7:40 PM on a Saturday night, and they had 5 customers in the restaurant (and all of the curtains drawn). At this point, I should have trusted my instincts and left. Ever the optimist, I thought of the good reviews and thought maybe this place was good and just not 'discovered.' In reality, if a restaurant has 2 tables of people on a Saturday night, one should find a restaurant that more people are willing to eat at. I obviously am not a good guinea pig. From 7:40 to 9 PM, only 5 more people came in to eat. Right away, this is fatal for a buffet, as they will not be turning over the food.
The good- The staff was friendly (thus the reason for star #2).
The ok - appetizers were ok. Vegetable egg roll and crab rangoon were ok. Clearly these were frozen items that were fried in the restaurant and possibly the reason why they were decent was that they were one of 4 items that were brought out hot during our stay. Egg drop soup was plain but adequate. Garlic shrimp was good and coincidentally was the only other food brought out hot for the buffet beside the lo mein (which was flavorless).
The bad - everything else. Restaurant floors were sticky and dirty. We were seated at a booth (not asked where in the restaurant we would feel most comfortable sitting) whose bench seat had been duct taped back together. All of the entrees (aside from the garlic shrimp) were cold, chewy, underflavored (at best), and redundant. Almost all entrees were some sort of fried meat drowned in nondescript sauce. I didn't realize how bad it was until I realized that the General Tso's frozen chicken meal from Sam's Club was significantly better than what was served at the 'restaurant.' Some entrees were unlabeled. Sweet and sour pork was one of the worst things that I have ever eaten. To top it off, the buffet didn't even have any steamed rice. They did have fried rice which was clearly recycled steamed rice that had been fried without any egg, vegetables, meats, or flavor - just greasy rice.
If I owned this restaurant and wanted to serve food that wasn't an insult to the community, I would hire a chef and put 4 quality entrees on the buffet with higher quality, fresh ingredients and keep the entrees coming out hot. If they could focus on serving a few good entrees instead of a dozen terrible ones, perhaps they would be doing their community a service and attract more customers. Otherwise, eat there at...
Read morePlease save your money. EDIT: CHINA WOK. For you to call someone you do not know, uneducated is presumptuous. I was recommended to your "place" (that is NO restaurant). Let's break it down. Atmosphere: outside is average. You walk in, the first thing I noticed was all of the ceiling tiles were falling. There are HUGE gaps between the tiles and the ceiling, even over the "buffet" area. The seats were cracked, dingy and lumpy. Carpet sticky. Dishes and silverware were questionable I thought ya know I've had some of my best dishes in holes in the wall. I'll give it a shot. Food: most Dishes were recognizable. The lo mein and another dish were out for the first 15 minutes of our "meal" I got some food went sit down to eat. It was COLD. I tried other dishes, the best I got was lukewarm. Disappointing. Service: NO ONE EVERCAME TO CHECK OUR DRINKS, ASK HOW THE FOOD WAS, NOTHING. All in all a pretty bad experience. The person who took me there felt so bad. They said 3 years ago it was good. This is a very prominent OKC businessman who grew up here. Also don't come on the internet, call people liars. You need to do better. You know your place is disgusting. P.s. I ate oranges from the salad bar. It was the only thing palatable. P.s.s A hit dog...
Read moreThe prices are to high for the quality of food. They sent me the wrong food for the second time. I ordered Hunan Spicy Chicken and received a beef dish. The beef was chewy, and bland. If it had at least tasted good I would have been less upset they gave me the wrong dish. They also packaged the unwanted beef dish in a PAPER box. So the sauce leaked all over the bottom of our bag and the rest of our food. So taking the food out of our bag made a mess. My girlfriend ordered orange chicken, and surprisingly they got that right this time. However the portion she received was huge compared to my tiny meal that wasn’t even what I ordered. So not only did they mess up my order, but they gave me much less to eat. I paid $50 dollars for 5 items and they managed to mess it up. I’m very disappointed and will never order from here again. You’d be smart if you...
