Have been here a number of times already and can't say enough about how much my wife and I, and our two teenagers, enjoy the vibe, the staff, and the wonderful food and beverage offerings. The Avocado Salmon Toast has become a consensus, tried and true favorite for the fam. But I've recently tried the Chicken Salad Sandwich--pecans, cranberries, celery, black pepper, sour dough bread with toasted surfaces placed towards the INSIDE of the sandwich--sheer genius touch which totally transformed the eating experience and has made this my new personal favorite sandwich here. For breakfast, it seems I'll never tire of ordering the ricotta pancakes.
The new pastry offerings that constantly evolve are a real treat as well...my gosh, the maple syrup bacon poundcake and the tres-leche poundcake were delights. And as far as beverages, I can't help but stop by every now and then just to grab a Zesty Orange Latte (phenomenal) or a Peanut Butter Latte (nice!).
All that being said, I think what I've enjoyed most about our visits to Prep Coffee is that it's the kind of venue that up until this point, we haven't quite found in OB. Where there is a particular vibe that is simultaneously cosmopolitan but laid back, welcoming. Valeria and Sebastian certainly make you feel at home. And such an ambiance helps foster wonderful conversations...can't thank Sebastian enough for indulging our philisophical explorations into the societal value and impact of the culinary arts! LOL!
Thanks so much Prep Coffee, for opening up...
Read moreWhen I first heard about prep coffee through a friend, I was excited to come and try it out for myself, especially after browsing through their instagram to see what to expect. With that being said, I am very disappointed with how everything turned out. When I first ordered my coffee I noticed a pick-up order, and I had asked the girl at the register what it was because it looked amazing… so I ordered the same. When she first handed my coffee it looked completely different than what I saw at the pick up counter. So I asked her if this was the correct coffee? She said yes it is, and I just restated that it looked completely different and she said she would remake it and that she was rushing as the reason to why it didn’t look like the same appearance as the first coffee that caught my eye. She was extremely pleasant and accommodating, which made the situation better. However, then when I got my $13 burrata avocado toast….. it was a let-down. $13 for a lightly spread of nearly nonexistent avocado?
I’m extremely disappointed and displeased. My friend and I were looking forward to coming here and trying their different coffees and food that they serve, especially after browsing their aesthetically appealing...
Read morePrep Coffee in Matawan was such a cute little find. I got the iced Rainbow Cookie latte, and my boyfriend went for the iced Bananas Foster. They were perfectly sweet and had that creamy flavor that made me pause after the first sip.
I ordered the Jersey burrito and hash browns, and he had the blueberry ricotta toast. That toast honestly surprised me. The ricotta was so smooth, and the blueberries were super fresh with just the right touch of honey. I may or may not have stolen more than one bite. Before heading out, we of course had to try their pastries. We got chocolate chip cookies, which had the texture of bread rather than a cookie but it was still good and vanilla cupcakes with mable bacon frosting, it didn't sound like it was gonna work flavor wise but it was really good.
The space is cozy and has a clean, local charm to it. Although, it could get really loud in there, quick. The service felt super genuine, like they actually cared. We just sat there, enjoying our food, our drinks, and the slow Saturday energy.
It's one of those spots I'll remember and want to come back to, not just for the coffee but for the...
