AJ's Noodle Bar in Old Saybrook is an absolute gem that every food enthusiast must experience. From the moment you walk in, you're greeted with a warm and inviting atmosphere, but it's the food that truly steals the show. The culinary team at AJ's has mastered the art of presentation. Each dish that arrived at our table was a work of art, so beautifully plated that it almost seemed a shame to disturb it. What's even more impressive is that the food looks every bit as stunning in person as it does on their website – a rare feat in today's dining landscape. And the taste? Simply outstanding. Every bite was a delightful explosion of flavor and fresh ingredients. A particular highlight, and something I cannot recommend enough, are the pork buns. They are, quite simply, "to die for!" Perfectly steamed, with tender, flavorful pork and a delightful sauce, they are an absolute must-try. Beyond the incredible food, the staff at AJ's Noodle Bar are attentive, friendly, and genuinely eager to ensure you have a fantastic dining experience. Their excellent service only enhances the overall enjoyment of the meal. In conclusion, AJ's Noodle Bar is more than just a restaurant; it's a culinary experience. With its outstanding and beautifully presented food, especially those unforgettable pork buns, and a staff that goes above and beyond, I wholeheartedly and highly recommend everyone to visit AJ's! Read moreIt was the worst service I've had in Connecticut. Young man kept rolling his eyes and coping an attitude for people walking in and having to serve them. Sticky table, bad attitude when taking order, never got miso soup that came with meal. But the worst was the eviceral "why do i have to deal with you" reaction when i had to stand up and ask for our check and a few boxes. If that child had been a member of my staff, and i saw even one moment of his behavior, i would have fired him on the spot. 5 tables and a counter is a standard section in any restaurant, let alone the whole place. There was some to go traffic but not enough to warrant neglect of seated customers. Dosent matter what you have going on in your personal life, it is unacceptable to bring that into your work life. Rather on the pricy side for ramen to have that garbage service. Also the fermented bamboo shoots smelled of ammonia/urea. Never expected that before. The one saving grace was the pork belly cha sieu. Melt in your mouth, complexity of flavors harmoniously blending into one, rich and satisfying to the soul. Unreal dichotomy of...
Read moreI ordered a basic ramen “Tonkatsu”.
Delivered with no spoon, had to ask for one.
Asked for sparking water, delivered in its own plastic bottle. I had to ask for a glass, ice and straw.
The broth was dreadful. It tasted like chicken broth with bacon added. Absolutely dreadful.
Please know that I understand that the pork is wrapped and cooked in the round, wrapped in string to keep its unique shape. First bite of the pork and I found a complete piece of string wrapped around it. I was extremely disappointed. The owner?, came by to check on me and I presented her with the string. She was apologetic and tried to explain about how the pork roll needs to be tied up and that she would bring it up with the kitchen. I respectfully acknowledged her response.
A few bites later and a SECOND piece of string in my mouth.
I’m not a complainer. I should have made a scene but that’s not my style.
I went to the register expecting some kind of courtesy…”sorry about that so we’ll knock something off your bill”…nothing.
Will never return and do NOT...
