Stopped in while looking for somewhere to grab a bite to eat and a drink with my girlfriend. The place wasn't busy so we sat at the bar. We were greeted by the bartender Joyce. She was extremely personable and friendly. Being our first time there, she went over some of the food items and drink offerings. We ended up selecting two of their hot dogs (The Diablo and Ruben Dog) and also split the Buffalo Bill Cheese Fries. (With a side of their garlic aoli dipping sauce). We also tasted a pumpkin IPA that they were offering. We definitely were not disappointed with the meal or drinks..... everything was so good! And throughout our meal Joyce would check to see if we needed anything/was very attentive and also held a nice conversation with us and all the while not "intruding" when my girlfriend and I were talking to one another. It was definitely a nice place to go and we are glad we stopped in. We will definitely be going back to try some of their other awesome food and drink options. Besides the great food/drink, it's nice to go to a place where people like Joyce make you feel welcome.
4/8/25--Have only been back to this place a few times with my girlfriend but we did stop in last night. Food was great and Nick (bartender was very friendly and professional/customer service oriented). My girlfriend had the Ruben dog again but I tried the Symba Dog (Chipotle ketchup added a great kick) . Definitely did not disappoint! We also had the Buffalo Bill Cheese fries like last time with the aoli dipping sauce which is awesome. They have some great sounding burgers as well which we definitely will have to try! They also had great music playing (not too loud and familiar songs). This place is small and can be easily passed by if you aren't looking for it but I would definitely recommend...
Read moreUsed to be a place we stopped in on Sunday’s but something has changed ( besides Jeremy Madera leaving). Today, place was fairly empty for an overcast Sunday. We just had a chicken sandwich with bacon and cheese and a basket of boneless chicken wings( really frozen chicken bites about size of small ping pong balls). My husband was appalled after the bartender described them as crispy white meat chicken fingers that were delicious . He usually gets wings with bones but didn’t want the mess. Last night he ordered 12 wings, he only got flats not a mixture and not crispy. My sandwich was billed at $12.50( $1 over menu price) and chicken bites for 12 were $17 plus one tonic water… total of $31 plus tip. No fries or side… bartender was nice but so loud.. felt like sitting there I was intruding on personal conversations she was having with two customers. Less than 10 customers at 12:30 on a Sunday…. It wasn’t like it was Mother’s Day or a beautiful beach day.
Last time I had a cheeseburger for $14 smaller than a McDonalds quarter pounder and didn’t have lettuce or tomato but charged extra for a little onion… quality had gone way down. Wasn’t cooked as to order of medium rare and was very dry. The $10 specialty espresso milkshake was the biggest joke. …. no longer will stop in on Sunday’s for a bite and watch sports. Guess everything has...
Read moreImagine a friendly local bar that serves casual food that just happens to be owned by a man who used to be the head chef at Max Downtown in Hartford. (sorry for the run on).
If you look at the menu, you will see "burgers" . Blah blah blah. But these are not just burgers. They are BURGERS. Better than you've ever had before. Better than you make at home. They are amazing.
The burgers are not served with fries. So I go all gluttonous and get a burger with wings.
My kids love the grilled macs and cheese. Yes its as good as it sounds.
The key thing here is that everything is prepared with a care and attention to detail that you would expect from a guy who used to run the kitchen at one of CT's best fancy restaurants. The wings are crispy. The proportion of toppings to beef to bread in the burger is just perfect.
Add to it the crown jewel. Rich the bartender, who makes some of the best stuff you can put in a glass and you have a great great place.
Its my favorite spot in Old Saybrook. No, I wasn't paid to post this review.

p.s. If you have young kids or just want an alcohol free environment, right next door is Jack Rabbit's. It shares a kitchen with the Rabbit Hole and serves the same food in a soda fountain...
