I'm ashamed that this is the Wayback Burgers that our community is stuck with. What an embarrassment.
We placed an online order, which seemed like a great idea at the outset.. no need to wait for your order b/c they tell you when it's ready, and no chance of an order getting messed up because of a rushed employee or miscommunication.
Except none of those things were true at the Saybrook Wayback Burgers :(.
We had to stand in the restaurant for a full 15 minutes after we were told to come pick up our order, because they suddenly were in a rush. How about don't tell us to come at 6:15pm if you're super busy and our order isn't going to be ready until 6:30pm? Kind of defeats the purpose of take out if a restaurant can't manage that...
To boot, the chicken tenders were so burned/overcooked we had to ask them to be prepared again. There's another 10 minutes of getting to sit and wait at the restaurant for a take out order.
When we got home, the classic Wayback Burger--which you think after 50 years of preparing couldn't be screwed up--was two overcooked patties and cheese. No sign of a tomato or an onion or anything else that might have made this palatable.
All of this might have been helped with a smudge of customer service, but the guy and girl that were working on this busy August 5 evening were apathetic and clearly had no interest doing the job they were doing.
Attached a photo of what the Wayback Classic is supposed to look like vs. the one they gave us at Wayback@Saybrook. One of these things is not like...
Read moreI have loved this place because I love their turkey burgers been eating them for years. Can't eat alot of red meat but love I can put what I want on it. Always tastes great. One day my boyfriend and I went in, him to get his Burger and me to get my turkey burger. Best of both worlds. I'm told they don't have turkey burgers anymore. WAIT WHAT? Did I hear you correctly. I want a burger.lol I'm told i can have chicken. Your name is Wayback Burger. I know this is not this branches fault but it sucked when I was watching my boyfriend enjoy his Burger. I do like the fries and sometimes I go in alot of workers and sometimes not enough. Started eating the chicken sanwich and It was really delicious and my boyfriend got the double cheeseburger with pepper jack and the fixings. I do love their fries. Crispy and not shoe string. Honestly it was all around delicious. The only down side is the bun which is tasty but doesn't hold up. It starts to fall apart or disintegrate. Literally in a few bites my sandwich is a hot mess...but tasty 😋. The chocolate shakes are also delicious. We have loved this place over the years and there is one cook who gets it perfect every time. I started to like the chicken sandwich and enjoy everything but unfortunately it has been bought out and the wayback burger greeting, food, and customer service has gone down but I come now when one cook is working so I know Ill enjoy...
Read moreThe service at this Wayback was just wack. After ordering, we were told that the wait would be 10-15 minutes. Literally 30 minutes later, most of our order was still not ready, and when we asked, we found out all the workers just forgot about it! We kindly waited, overhearing snarky remarks from a couple of the workers about how they “hated when customers asked about their orders, because they didn’t care.” Like honey, THAT’S YOUR JOB! Grow up. As a customer, I felt completely belittled, as if I was in the wrong for wanting the food I paid for. The only worker who seemed to have the decency to want to help us was a staff member named Shamar. The management needs to do some undercover work to get rid of these workers. Send in a good friend or something and see how they are treated and what they say. The floor is sticky and the food is quite overpriced. If the staff is nasty, the whole business will crumble. Nothing anyone says will have me back at this Wayback. I don’t recommend it for anyone else either. The only reason this review is 2 stars is because of Shamar, because he actually treated us with kindness...
