In short: Broncos excels at the basics -- Burgers, fries, soda -- but tries to cater to too many audiences. Keep your order simple, and in the drive through, and you'll have a great experience.
Long Review: Once a staple of Omaha in the 70's and 80's, it's easy to dismiss Bronco's as a fumbling franchise that can't adapt to modern times, modern standards and modern technology. And you'd be accurate.
However, the pieces are here to make a truly great restaurant. The pieces are there! One only has to look as far as the rapidly growing In and Out Burger franchise to see that the opportunity is there. This only is amplified that I believe Bronco's has some of the Best Fries that Omaha has to offer.
However, I find it hard to believe that they aren't taking losses trying to keep themselves diversified in an ever growing field of fast food chains. With Menu items like Fried Chicken (that's usually dry and under a heat lamp), Pork Tenderloin sandwiches, Garlic Bread, fried eggs and more -- Bronco's could stand to focus their business on quality, speed, and customer service and a more refined menu. The excess money from these menu changes could pe spent on deeper cleaning of their facilities. And possibly a rebranding. Something to show that the company is looking to stay alive in the changing landscape of the food industry.
That said, it's understandable why they would be resistant to change. Being open since 1959, many of their clients are long time faithfuls that could feel alienated by change and not bring their business back.
It's difficult for any family owned business to try and survive when mom and pop shops around America are being muscled out by big businesses and big money. But while Broncos still delivers a delicious, nostalgic dining experience, their future has a much fearful problem on the horizon rather than a lack of...
Read moreI went there Wednesday with my daughter after we got out of the hospital ER because she really wanted Bronco's as a treat. We were both looking forward to it. The online info said it closes at 10 PM. Drove in to the lot and the outside lights are out, including the big neon marquee sign. This is just after 9 PM. Went to the drive-through and sat there without any one asking for our order. We sat there for almost 5 minutes waiting for someone to answer and kept calling out "Hello?" The speaker did squawk a couple times.
Finally we drove around to the window and there was a young man doing clean up. He seemed disinterested in us and irritated we broke drive-through protocol. He took our orders, two meal combos. I asked specifically for a Coke Zero, which is on their menu. He then asked if there were other people back there at the menu board - there were 3 other cars, he took their orders.
When our order was ready he handed it out the window and read back the order. He repeated a "Coke." I said is that a Coke Zero? Yeah, yeah. Off we go.
When we got home I took a sip of my drink and it was clearly a regular Coke. I'm a diabetic and can't have that sugar. The receipt showed COKE. Argh!
I was so looking forward to having my Coke Zero after sitting in the emergency room for 5 hours with a sick kid that it spoiled the entire meal. That and the rotten customer service experience.
I managed fast food restaurants for years in school. I know the deal. It certainly did not look like they wanted to serve the customer that night.
Normally I call to complain. Did not feel that night would have been productive. I was going to call the next day, but I am an ICU nurse and I am barely getting in a break for lunch during the pandemic. So instead I sit in my car at 0630 before work putting...
Read moreI just had the worst, strangest fast-food experience of my life at 120th Street Broncos. I was just ordering a medium soda and the price rang up as the large size, so I Politely ask if the tax on $2.49 is 50¢? The cashier immediately kind of hollers at me that "It's just what it rings up." I ask if the medium is $2.49 and then he gets flat out angry and hollers the same thing even louder, and yells if I don't like it I should leave. No joke. My voice is never raised, and I'm polite. I'm shocked, but I'm still polite, and frankly a little scared. I politely ask for a manager who comes to the speaker, and I tell her about the price discrepancy and the fact that the cashier is very rude. She tells me they change prices all the time and doesn't bother to apologize. I politely ask her name, and all I hear is several people laughing and someone saying "dude." So I ask again, because I think that an owner may be interested in their employees bizarre behavior. She tells me she can't give out her name. I immediately hear the young man full on yelling into the speaker now, "Get out of the lane." This whole conversation probably took one minute or so. Needless to say, I drive away because he sounds extremely menacing! This guy, whoever he is, is Very easily triggered, and I would be amazed if he had not already acted aggressively towards coworkers or customers. He needs to learn anger management. The manager sounded incapable of dealing with it and giggled. I respect her not giving names out, I only wanted to report the incident. Here's a hint to the owner, "Be smart and check into a Very bad worker & manager situation." This occured at 6 pm, Thursday, Jan. 6th. I hope that some good...
