This was our first time eating at Charred, and I don't think we will be back.
Let me start with this - the food itself was delish! Had some great flavor and portion sizes for what you get was great. The weather was decent and there was a nice breeze so we opted to eat on the patio (I've read other reviews about the noise level - I can't speak to that since we were outside).
I don't know if the negative experience we had is due to the fact that this place is still new, or just what, but we left feeling rather disappointed. We were seated, got our drinks and placed our orders (in about 10 minutes time). It then took another 15-20 minutes for our food to come. They didn't look that busy, so it was surprising that it took so long.
I ordered the slider trio - figured it was a great way to try a variety of sandwiches since it was our first time. I ordered the Blue, Classic, and Charred.
I ate my first sandwich which i thought was the Charred - it was so spicy-hot that my mouth was on FIRE. As I was nearly finished with that slider, my husband noticed that one of my sandwiches (the Blue) looked like it had mushrooms on it - I brushed it off thinking it was the caramelized onions, but after looking more closely we realized it was indeed the "mushroom" burger.
We finally got the attention of our server and mentioned that my order was incorrect. She said she'd look into it and mention it to her manager. After our server took the order of two other tables, she finally stopped by again (about another 5-10 minutes passed) and asked what I wanted to do…eat what was brought out or get a new burger. Well – I don’t care for mushrooms and was NOT going to eat that one, so I asked for at least one of the burgers that I actually did order. The manager finally came to our table when the new burger was brought out and was the FIRST to offer any type of apology for the incorrect order. She said they were trying to work with the kitchen to figure out what went wrong. As I previously stated, I ordered the Blue, Classic, and Charred … I actually received the mushroom, BBQ and Wildfire.
When our server brought us our check was the FIRST AND ONLY time she even said she was sorry for the mix-up.
Also, the food was inconsistent – my husband ordered the Mushroom as a full burger and didn’t have the spinach that was supposed to come on it. While the mushroom slider that I was given had it.
It takes a lot for me to get upset or frustrated when at dining establishments and I was frustrated here. Food was great, but the service left something to be desired. We won’t be back – I’m sorry to say. In Omaha there are A LOT of restaurants and other places...

My wife had the charred salad, a green leaf salad with a charred burger patty on the top. She enjoyed it a lot.
I got the Carolina BBQ burger. Charred cheese burger with Carolina-styled BBQ sauce, Cole slaw, onion strings and bacon. I liked it a lot.
The onion rings were very good freshly made and quite tasty.
For dessert we ordered the bacon croissant sundae. If you like a sweet-salty dessert combo then this should please you.
We found the food good, but as one other reviewer noted the portions tend to the smaller size. For instance, our "share" sized onion rings side order looked like what I expect for a single serving. The burgers fit easily on your standard sized hamburger buns. Not necessarily a negative, just an observation.
I was a little disappointed in the sundae. It was good, but I missed a more chocolate experience that my taste buds expected, like the chocolate covered bacon we have experienced before at other places. It was good, just nothing I expect to crave in the future.
Our one downside on this visit was our server. Don't know if he was having an off night or this is just his style, but it did not seem indicative of the other servers. The person delivering our food smiled, talked to us, offered refills, etc. Our server never introduced himself, explained the menu and expected our dining experience was complete as our plates neared empty and he delivered the check. We still wanted a dessert. Did not thank us for coming in,, either. Off day for him? I was trained in restaurants from a teen so I expect a minimum level of waiter-customer interaction. Will come again to see...
Read moreBurgers have a special place in my heart. And my stomach. Somehow - they're the only type of food I ever actually seem to crave. As a result - I do consider my mouth to be somewhat of a burger expert. That being said - I also love French fries. Who doesn't? (If you don't, you should probably seek help...)
My most recent visit to Charred left me feeling full and satisfied. My burger was cooked perfectly, loaded up on a tasty bun, and the patty was fresh, great quality, and just the right size. As far as a good, all-around burger - you can't go wrong with Charred. My only complaint, is that while the burger was very good - it didn't quite give the "shock and awe" I was hoping for. I felt it was just somewhat lacking. But that's okay! I'd rather it be done right and taste good, than overdone and come out wrong.
But now let me tell you about THE FRIES. We ordered the Haystack - and we did not leave any of the Haystack for our amazing server to take away. No fry left behind. These little golden delights are the perfect size, adequately salted, with the perfect balance of crispy and fluffy on the inside. The beer cheese over the top was phenomenal (can I get a glass full next time?), and honestly, thinking about this dish makes me want to go back right now.
Last but not least - the Vodka Lemonades that seem to be a specialty in the Charred establishments are delicious. Loads of real fruit, delicious house made lemonade, my only complaint is the fact my straw wasn't big enough to slurp down all the vodka infused fruit chunks.
Make sure when you visit, you...
