We have been dining at Hiro 88 in Millard since June 2017. It started out with excellent food, atmosphere, and wines. In recent years, unfortunately, the food and service have declined. We went for lunch on a Friday, thinking the food would be freshest. We could not have been more disappointed. I enjoy salads with carrot-ginger dressing. The salad they brought out was extremely wilted and dried-up, either from age or improper storage. I asked the person who I presumed to be some kind of manager for a salad that wasn’t dried out. He did not have the grace to even be embarrassed by the quality of the food, and brought a replacement salad that was slightly less wilted but had rotted greens. I decided not to risk finishing it. We had the sushi and sashimi plate, along with some a la carte sushi, and I tried a sake bomb. The fish portions appeared much smaller than on previous visits, though the prices had not shrunk at all. More critically, the fish seemed off, and the scent of it not right. I ended up only risking one of the yellowtail pieces and leaving the rest, despite it being my favorite fish. Even the rice was not right. It felt old, like leftovers, hardened a bit on the outside. This made it chewy and extra-sticky. You were still finding bits of it clinging to your teeth twenty minutes after you finished the nigiri. Service was sub-par as well. Our waitstaff was curt, rapidly repeating our order back to us so fast I could barely understand her. Some time after our unappetizing meals were served, she did a perfunctory check with us to ask if our meals were okay, but did not give us time to respond before declaring “Oh, good!” and rushing away. In summary, we won’t be going back unless we hear the restaurant has made some kind of miracle comeback. We did not enjoy a single part of our lunch. It is a shame, but now we know to avoid the place.

Small plates are my favorite here. The entrées are good (my son loves the peanut butter chicken) and people rave over the sushi (check out the sushi boat), but I choose Hiro 88 for the small plates. This time we chose the aisan short ribs, chicken lettuce wraps, chicken satay, spring rolls, and goyza. Other favorites are the green beans, Brussel sprouts and hot and sour soup. It's fun to taste all the different items and switch up the sauces. Everything was fresh and flavorful. We loved the short ribs this time- tender beef grilled to perfection. The atmosphere is modern and serene. Menus are by QR code but, the sticker on our table had been cleaned so often my phone couldn't read it. The server saw our attempts and provided a printed menu. The service was amazing. She gave us ordering suggestions, accommodated a special drink order, re-filled our drinks, cleared the plates, asked if we liked everything, all without hovering. In my book she did everything I appreciate from a server. It was a fun week night date.

Got some take out to head to bookclub. Food was good! Ordered online and waited in my car for it to be ready. Online order process never told me it was ready for pickup even though it was an option. I kept refreshing the page and checking my email for an update, never received one. After waiting the full time of the 20-30 minute estimation, I went in and my food was ready. If it had updated appropriately, I could’ve gotten my food sooner and been on my way. That won’t stop my from retuning, but did drop my rating.

Order was placed at 7pm on Sunday 9/6/2020. The order was supposed to be ready for pick up at 7:43. After arriving at 7:40 to pick up the order, I was informed that the order wasn’t ready yet. I asked the hostess with brown braided hair how long it would be to which she rolled her eyes and told me sushi takes time to make. Again I asked how long until the order would be ready and she continued to refuse to answer me. A nice young man said “about 10 min”. I thanked him and went outside to wait. I entered the restaurant again at 8pm. Again I was told that the order wasn’t ready and they didn’t know when it would be ready. There was another customer who had been waiting for over 30 minutes for his to go order and when he told the manager that he had a baby waiting in the car, he was ignored. Another customer had placed an online order that was scheduled to be ready at 7:30 and at 8:00 he was still waiting. When he asked to speak to the manager, the manager told him it was Happy Hour and it takes longer. The man said he placed the order at 4:34 and requested it to be ready at 7:30. Instead of apologizing for the long wait, the manager started interrogating the customer about what app he used to place the order. The manager never apologized for the inconvenience and merely said he would “go check on the order”. I asked the manager if he would check on my order as well to which he seemed irritated. I explained that the order was placed at 7pm with a 7:40 pick up time. He responded in an irritated manner and said “its happy hour”. I asked him if dine in customers actually waited an hour and 20 minutes for their orders and he turned his back to me and under his breath said “this isn’t fast food”. He was incredibly rude. I understand restaurants get busy, but in all my dining experiences, I have NEVER had to wait 1:30 minutes for sushi. The manager never came out again and had his host and hostess staff deal with several disgruntled customers. This is unfair to his employees. As the manager, he should have apologized and handle the situation instead of walking away. In my opinion, if a restaurant knows they are going to be busy due to a Happy Hour, they should schedule the appropriate number of staff to handle the influx of orders. Restaurants rely on customers and online orders to survive, clearly the manager at Hiro 88 tonight needs to...

I took my wife and family (total of 7) here for Mothers day. We have been frequent customers of Hiro88 since discovering it. Often we get take out - but likely dine in at least monthly. It "feels" like the service/quality is going downhill lately, however.

One of the biggest complaints we have is that it took nearly an hour to get our food after ordering. But there was more wrong with this visit.

In our order (which the final ticket bill was $200) - we had four bento boxes, one ordered two of the asian short ribs (as a meal) with rice, and the two of us had sushi.

Both of the sushi orders included a fried roll. Normally, these are still warm when we get it. We order this often for takeout... and they are still generally warm by the time we get it home. This day it was cold. It still eats, but strange that it was cold.

The asian short ribs came cold. The rice was actually warmer than the short ribs.

In the bento boxes, the rice was also the warmest thing in the box. All four had either teriyaki beef or gyoza - items that would normally be hot when we get it - and they were cold.

Also, we substituted cream cheese for the avacado on two west coast rolls. We were charged $1/each for the cream cheese. You would think there wouldn't be a charge here because obviously cream cheese is much cheaper than avacado... felt that was a little "nickel and dime'ish"

We told the waitress who offered to get a manager. We had already waited so long to get the food - I didn't want to mess with that so we declined. Too often lately we have had other issues there - you just get tired of having to complain I guess. Don't get me started on their 3% surcharge if you choose to pay with credit card.

Just felt like a pretty big let down to have spent so much on a meal for mothers day to have it delivered cold. I hope they get their processes fixed, because we love going there when things are right... but if it keeps up we...

If I could give it a negative score I would! My family and I went here last night for dinner. Service was slow to start even though the restaurant was not busy. When our main course was brought to our table the waitress was carrying two of the four dishes. The manager brought out the other two right behind her. As he came in to give us our dinner they ended knocking over a couple of glasses of water soaking me from waist to knee. There was awkward silence from both the waitress and manager. Finally the waitress mumbled she was sorry and the manager disappeared only to return with a cloth long after we had sopped up all the water with the napkins and still he never said a word! My thought at the time was ok.. accidents happen although I wouldn't say how they handled the aftermath to be good. So I decided to enjoy my dinner and time with my family. However, if it wasn't bad enough being wet, when we were finally able to eat I notice a black HAIR in my food (I am blonde)! It took a bit for for us to get the waitress to come by and show her but she did take it back and bring me a new dinner a few minutes later. At this point I had lost my appetite. A bit later the waitress came back and said that the manager offered us some free desert for our trouble tonight! Really!? Why would you think I would want to stay longer in my drenched clothes and to have more food when what I had already received had hair in it? She said that she would see about the manager doing something else. About 10 minutes later the manager stopped by after our ticket was delivered and said he took off a couple of the appetizers since we didn't want any dessert. Gee thanks for taking $10 off our $75 ticket. What a totally missed opportunity to do the right thing. Or even look like you were trying to! This whole thing was handled terribly and I would not recommend ever going to...
