Sorry I didn't take food pics, but we were so eager to eat! The place is very neat and clean, and playing some banging classic soul and R&B. We came at breakfast time, but their menu is all day. I ordered the shrimp and grits and a side of bacon. The grits were cooked perfectly, and they even ask how thick or thin you like your grits when you order. The shrimp were nicely grilled, and the butter has a nice subtle spice flavor. My wife ordered the Pops Special with sausage patties. The pancakes were cooked perfectly and very tasty, the sausage was good, and the sunny side up eggs were done right, except that my wife ordered scrambled eggs and our friend ordered the sunny side up. It wasn't a big deal, she likes eggs all ways, not worth sending back. The server was super friendly and attentive. I also got a bonus - Mr. Jackson himself brought me an extra take home container of Cajun shrimp and grits since it was extra in the kitchen as he was teaching one of the cooks. Score! There are so many other items on the menu we want to try, and we'll be back. The catfish that some other people ordered looked amazing. The food was high quality, fresh, and cooked well. This is a lovely homegrown cafe, and you should definitely...
Read moreThis is a small, family owned eatery! I came while I was on a short visit here and was looking for some good food. I had the Pork Chop Dinner, with Greens and Yams for my sides. The Pork chops can be served fried or grilled. Mine were fresh out the grease and seasoned well.
The greens were decent as they have no meat in them, but they could use a tad bit more seasoning to make up for the meat flavor missing. The yams were good, not too sweet, not hard, and not dry.
The reason why I gave 4 stars was because a few things on the menu were not available, mainly desserts. The desserts that were present when I arrived were Bananna Pudding and Better Than Sex Cake. The menu listed Bannana Pudding or Peach Cobbler.
The atmosphere and service were good, as the server was really informative about the menu, and the atmosphere was small and quaint. Music in the background was at a good level, and a great playlist was heard.
The only thing I would suggest to anyone coming in is to ask about items not available on the menu, Each day is different as what may be available, so please put a sign up to let people know substitutions or items unavailable.
I would try this place again, but earlier in the...
Read moreThe first time I had breakfast here I had no complaints. I live 2hrs away from here and my love suggested we have breakfast here again before my trip back home. I had an omelette, hash browns, and toast. The toast was soggy so I asked for new toast. Our waitress was so sweet and offered to replace it. Well I started to eat and noticed that the food tasted very greasy. I didn’t want to complain about it because my love had to be to work and I needed to hit the highway to head back home. Mind you I also took notice that the prices had been raised. As a consumer one would expect the quality of the food to be on point for the price being charged. I made our server aware and she apologized. What makes matters worse I had to make an emergency stop to the bathroom before hitting the highway because my body rejected it to put it mildly. Maybe the cook had an off morning. I posted a picture and you can see how greasy...
