Ever since we moved out to Bennington, the wife and I have been wishing for more local coffee shop options in the area. I was really excited to see Moon Hollow open up down the road from us, especially since it's on a pretty convenient location on the morning commute. Unfortunately, however, our experience with the coffee and food has been nothing short of poor. They're charging premium prices for a sub-standard product. We ordered 3 things. A cold brew, a (EDIT: iced) latte, and their Monte Cristo crepe (pictured). All of them were not what we expected. The cold brew was very acidic and tasted "off". The best way I can describe it is that it tasted like drinking day old brewed coffee that's been sitting out over ice. I drink a lot of cold brew and I can't say I've ever had one that tastes like this. Not good. The (EDIT: iced) latte tasted the same, like day old coffee, only with milk (which seemed fine). Also not good. Then there's the crepe. It came out cold, seems to be pre-made and just thrown in a box. The crepe itself was soggy and absolutely flavorless. There was hardly any filling, which you can see in the picture, and all of that didn't taste particularly great either. This was easily the biggest disappointment. Sadly, I doubt we will ever go back. Everything was bad and as much as we'd like to support local businesses, it's hard when you miss the mark this badly.

I go to coffee shops for two things, the coffee, and wonderful staff. Everything else is secondary. Moon Hollow Coffee knocks it out of the park on the main points and crushes it on everything else. The staff was great, and the shop itself was a vibe. The menu has plenty of options on the food and drink front so if you don't want to order the same thing every time you have a decent number of visits before you start to run out. On the coffee front the espresso was great and served in a beautiful set, that the barista was excited to drop off! The espresso was rich with a rich nutty flavor that balanced the acidity and sweetness. The specialty drinks were delicious and leveraged the tasty coffee base to present rich but sweet drinks that were not to overpowered. The breakfast sandwich was a great tasty grab on the go.

I had the pleasure of having Jane, the owner, introduce me to the shop and their menu items. I ordered the latte with their house-made blueberry syrup. It was just the right amount of sweetness, and it paired perfectly with the Brazilian espresso they use from Bad Seed (local to Omaha as well). The space is so cozy and bright, and there are some fun retail items, too. I definitely picked up a lil' piece of inspiration that fueled my work session here. I can't wait to be back! 🫐

Moon Hollow, I just have to commend you for your very attentive service. I've only been in twice but it struck me both times. It just felt like I was greeted extra warmly. It felt like the barista really enjoyed having me as a customer. As a customer it's surprisingly nice to be told, "You go find a place and make yourself comfortable and I'll bring this to you when it's ready" versus having a name or drink order called out (and I've think that's a fine way to serve customers too.) But your service goes above. I witnessed a barista today so happy to take some dishes from a customer. It just felt like she was sincere and happy to do her work. And as they were making their way to the door, she asked them how their drinks were and if they enjoyed their time inside. I'm not sure I've ever been asked if my drink was enjoyable. So today I witnessed an extremely warm greeting and goodbye. It left me with a nice feeling and I wanted you to know. Thanks for demonstrating you really enjoy what you do.

Edit: I stayed a little longer today and with some other customers the barista remembered what they ordered last time and asked how he liked the order since it was his first matcha. In my business I pride myself on remembering details about my clients so I was really impressed by this. Even if these customers are regulars, to remember they tried something new last time and follow up about it is very...
