The food is fantastic and the beer selection is large as is the 2 Liter Boot of beer. Try one with meal as it is the way to truly enjoy it the most. I had no idea that the food portion size would be so large when ordering. I ended up taking a big portion home with me and made 2 more complete meals out of it. The schnitzel is some of the best I have ever had and the soup and shrimp were definitely tasty. If you are anywhere near this restaurant and love German food, please stop and give it a try.
I was here for mother's day and the food was unbelievably good. Fantastic food!
2017-09-12 Oompah shrimp and a special chicken/seafood in a pastry, yum!
2019-10-20 Food was fantastic as usual!
2020-10-04 I have to say more this time about how the food is so good here. The Oompah shrimp and the Zigeuner Schnitzel are my favorite here and I look forward to it so much. I get the mashed potatoes and carrots and they are my favorite two sides. Here is my review of the food.
Zigeuner Schnitzel is a go out and get it now! If you have not tried it you have to try it. The zesty mushroom, onion, pepper, tomato & bacon sauce with the two huge pork portions make it fit for a king! I end up making three meals out of it because it is such a gigantic portion. My wife puts it in a skillet the next day and it heats up perfectly and still stays moist inside.
Oompah shrimp is a go out and get it now! I could easily make a meal just on the shrimp because it is so good but my wife and I split a basket. There's no comparison to any shrimp I've had anywhere else and it is absolutely fantastic!
Creamy red bell pepper soup with lump crab was a would recommend plus.
Every single time I have been here the staff have been wonderful and helpful with the menu. The only problem I have with this place is I'm always too full to eat dessert and they have some lovely desserts on the tray they bring around to tempt you. if I lived in the area, I would just come and get a cup of coffee and a dessert occasionally just so that I could try several. All in all this is a must-visit establishment and passing it up would be a mistake.
2021-10-03 I cannot tell you how much I love coming here. It is one of my favorite places in the world to eat! This time we started with oompah shrimp, as usual, but we added Flammkuchen. I have never had it before, but would recommend it highly. The oompah shrimp is still better, but this is a close second. As usual I also got myself the Zigeuner Schnitzel because I love it so so much! Then for dessert I decided to order the Grand Marnier cream torte. It had a graham cracker crust with chocolate mixed in and the perfect ratio of alcohol to a dessert that I've ever had. It enhanced yet did not cover up any of the flavors. This is probably the best dessert I've gotten here and will get it again next time. They are currently doing some remodeling and expansion and I'm happy to see this happening. Keep up the great work Bavarian chef!
2022-6-22 I got my normal eats this time but the surprise of the day was the Creamy red pepper soup w/ lump crabmeat. It was so good that I would actually take it over the oompah shrimp. I know you're saying, but you love the oompah shrimp. I do and I always order it because I love it so much. But this was an unbelievable soup and I recommend it Highly! Service was fantastic as usual and always a pleasure...
Read moreWill not be returning! We were a table of 8, 6 adults and two kids. Table was extremely tight. We couldn’t get in or out and people couldn’t walk around us. I felt “in the way” the entire meal. The restaurant is very dark and it is difficult to read or see your food.
As for the food. I felt it was very overpriced! The bread was hard and over cooked. I personally ordered the Filet. I ordered the Petite but was charged for the regular(I assume I received the regular cut). I was only able to eat half. It had a lot of gristle in the other half, but didn’t complain. My daughter ordered the Huhnerbrustchen Baden-Baden. She took one bite and could not eat another. It was very sweet , even came with a cherry on top. We told the waitress that she didn’t like the dish and she offered to bring a menu so my daughter could switch it out for something else. She brought us a menu and my daughter replaced it with a $39 dollar filet. The waitress didn’t remove the chicken from the table. Another waiter came by and asked if she would like it boxed up because her steak was coming out. I told him, we exchanged it for the steak because she didn’t like it and we didn’t need it boxed. He took it away. At the end of the meal they brought us our $430 dollar bill. Witch had both the steak and chicken on it. I ask the waitress if they could remove the chicken because she couldn’t eat it. She said she had to go talk to the kitchen. Meanwhile my daughter was in the bathroom and could hear the waitress telling the kitchen that we were refusing to pay for the chicken and talking bad about our table.
Someone else, who never identified herself, came out and said they had boxed the chicken for us and because the kitchen hadn’t done anything wrong with the dish we were expected to pay for both meals. She was blaming my daughter for not knowing how sweet the sauce was going to be and referred to the menu, which says “glazed with sauce”, not drenched in a pool of 1/2” of sauce. No one had said anything of the sort when I ordered the second meal or when I asked them to take it away and I didn’t want it boxed(before the steak came out).
I’ve never been to a restaurant that didn’t accept the diner’s feedback and replace a dish because you couldn’t eat it, it was super sweet and rubbery. Her original dish was $19 dollars and we replaced it with a order of $39 dollars.
Bottom line, very rude and OVERPRICED. Also we were never asked what sides we wanted. So we were brought all of them in small bowls. So we had to share small servings of the three items we liked and the other 4 bowls sat on the table. I wish we could have just picked the three we liked and had more of them. Best thing at the table was my kids chicken tenders and fries. They were good! But we will not go back and we eat out three...
Read moreFrom the outside this restaurant looks like a fun place to go however it is only a mask on top of a scheme of a place. We made reservations for 6 people at 500. However the hostest wrote down 5 people for 600 which made our dinner plans an hour late since they had no space within the hour.
Once we were able to be seated our party of 6 was seated in the middle of the upstairs dining room (two floors that have a narrow staircase to go to the top). The tables were so crammed in together that we could not comfortably scoot out far enough without bumping someone at another table. We were greeted within 5 minutes of being sat by a waitress that was dressed in a German style dress that had a chest tattoo of some 90's era looking sang, that too be honest was more embarrassing than authentic.
The waitress' monotone voice really set the mood as she read through a memorized slew of "specials". The majority of our party ordered water as a drink with the exception of two people who ordered a glass of wine and a beer. After waiting for their drinks, which took about 20 minutes, one member was told that the wine she ordered was not available even though it was recommended by the waitress and the beer ordered by another gentleman in our party was brought to him in a bottle with no glass...real classy.
Our food order took at least 45 minutes to be delivered and quite honestly did not look appealing. The portions may be big, but it felt as if the food came from a hog trough and was put on a plate. For the price, average plate costs about $22.00, I expected a little more finesse and sophistication. The taste was that of an 80's restaurant which has sub par menu items and expects that people will like it because they have no other reference point.
I am surprised and in awe that this establishment still captures the amount of business that it does since I would rather go to the nearest hot dog stand and have a better meal with better service than I did here. If you see this place and think "We should go.", I caution you to just...
