I loved this place & will be a Sunday regular. People were nice. We were picky about a place to sit because the atmosphere was so cool! Situated in the original part of downtown Orange, Tx, in an old dairy, this place celebrates the heritage of their community. An Historic Eatery! My appetite is substantial, so I often order two èntre’s in places like this. Let’s say they serve polite portions. Mel was FULL when we left. I could have ordered a Reuben. Damn! They have Reuben’s & Cubano’s if you’re a sandwich eater. I was attracted by the quiche, which was tasty but baked in a pie crust. The portion was slight (I’m a big guy) & I prefer crustless. To me, the crust diminished the otherwise rich flavors. My poor Caesar Salad. It was very sad. I Am grateful they had one, but it would have been better served two days ago. The salmon on top— was salty (don’t tell my cardiologist, LoL) but delicious! There were other seasonings on the portion of fish that I couldn’t distinguish. This was the jewel of my meal. Mel had shrimp grits. That was a home run, from the grit cake (like her mother used to make) to the lovely brown gravy with a little ‘bite back’ to it. Oh, and her salad, with glazed walnuts or pecans, creamy vinaigrette & more goodies than I can remember was truly a reason to return in and of itself! It’s embarrassing that we haven’t found this place sooner. Why was there not a line out the door ?!

In Orange, Texas, to visit family today. stopped by the Old Orange Café for lunch. Two members of the group had salads with grilled shrimp on top. The salads were super fresh, the shrimp was seasoned and grilled to perfection, and the salad dressings were out of sight. I highly recommend the white balsamic vinegar dressing! Another member has the Fiesta Burger, spicy heat for the “not faint of heart”… looked great and was reported as delicious! The real star of the lunch was my meal, the fish special of the day. The dish consisted of a very generous portion of redfish, which was blackened in a skillet, and served on a bed of perfectly cooked, wild rice, and topped with a spinach, crab and mushroom garlic cream sauce. OMG! Gastric Heaven! The fresh green beans on the side were sautéed with chunks of bacon and onions, and were a perfect pairing for the fish. The Old Orange Café is a 5 Star dining experience…

I have my own rating system. 6 stars: Presidential Service 5 stars: Top Notch Service 4 stars: It was straight 3 stars: Ok 2 stars: 😶 1 stars: I need to bypass the manager and speak to the owner. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Rainey was our customer service attendant. She was awesome. Very detailed orientated. Nobody drinks went dry. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ The food was plentiful. Had the special which was the Country Fired Steak on top of a bed of fries. Topped with queso. Seasoned very well.

I took my fiancé for his first visit! I could not believe how delicious the shrimp and grits are! I paired mine with the bowl of fruit, which isn't in season right now and tasted less ripe than I desired, it's February, so I'll try the fruit again in the summer. He had a cuban sandwich which he doesn't like mayo, but other than that said it was perfect. He complimented that the balance between the meats and veggies and crunch on the bread made for a delicious sandwich. His was paired with French fries. We both had their sweet tea with lemon and they have the best in town. It isn't overly sweet, and has a great tea flavor. To finish off our meal we shared the bread pudding with rum butter sauce. Fantastic!! No raisins or nuts, just simple and plain, toasty on top, moist bread pudding, and the sweet sauce tops it off so perfectly, which is why I give Old Orange Cafe an all 5...
