Best small town museum in Texas... better than most in big cities. AND FREE! Thank you Stark family. Western Art and sculpture... Remington, Russell! New Mexico... Georgia O'Keefe, Dunton... and an Audubon room! American Indian art, as well as the late 1800's to early 1900's photos and lithographs such as Edward Curtis are all rich and warm. Much more than we can describe. Friendly and professional staff, clean and architecturally overwhelming facility. They've got it all at the Stark. My highest recommendation, worth the trip.

The portraits of Native Americans, painted by artists who traveled with the trappers of the 1820's - 1840's (before the Westward Expansion) were particularly fascinating to me. These are the closest thing to photos that we have to remember those who occupied this land for centuries before Europeans arrived. There is also a painting of the Grand Canyon by an artist who accompanied John Wesley Powell! Truly a "must visit" museum, and definitely worth a detour.

The building is beautiful and there is plenty to see. They do a new opening twice a year and frequent smaller events such as date nights & family days and classes for preschool aged children to name a few. The museum takes a maybe couple of hours your first time, depending on how interested you are in looking at the different exhibits and taking your time. On a nice day you could easily see this & Shangri-la Botanical Gardens.

Beautiful museum! Had QR codes throughout describing different pieces. Even a Spotify playlist to enjoy while walking through the gallery. Nicest part was the kids had their own section of the gallery to display some of there work! Make sure to follow signs for "museum parking" as there are a lot of one way streets next to it. The cost is FREE! So go enjoy! 😉

AACA Louisiana Region visited the Stark Museum as part of our tour of East Texas. It's a nice, modern museum with attentive, informative staff and beautiful displays, primarily of Native American art. They did have 3 very interesting automobiles on display.

Great museum focusing on western art. They have an interesting collection of Steuben glass. If you are driving along the I10 get off at Orange you will not be disappointed. Best of all it is free to get in.
