My boyfriend and I, were visiting from out of state and staying about 10 minutes away from here. We didn't want to eat at the lodge restaurant. We like to experience 😋 local flavors while supporting local businesses. We are foodies to the core. This place was right off two main roads but had decent parking in the rear. It definitely appears to be a local watering hole and the local spot for quick good eats. We ordered their variety appetizer dish, which was $20 ... I would have expected a little more food for the price but the food was delicious!!!! The mozzarella sticks weren't too greasy, and it was nice a gooey, not the stiff fake mozz. The wings were little n spicy naked wings but they tasted phenomenal n were cooked perfectly, their deep fried pickles had a great seasoned crust n the pickles spears were nice n tangy and juicey but I'd prefer the round thin slices of pickles to get the full effect of deep fried pickles n not alll spear n hardly any crust but again that's my opinion but they were still good. We both got BBQ sandwich platters, the buns were nice and soft taste great, but the meat had no flavor it was very, very bland. I was super disappointed with the quality of the meat... when I go for BBQ at the least, I expect some kind of smoke flavor to it or some kinda flavor, but there was 0.... so I drenched it in their home style BBQ sauce, which helped, but I love BBQ that I don't need sauce n don't even wanna disrespect the meat by putting a sauit lol.... now their sides were good portions, we both got the Mac n cheese n potatoes salad, and it comes with a small container of slaw n we split a side of collard greens. The Mac n cheese wasn't really wet n cheesey it was a baked Mac that had perfect browning on top, no crunch, just the perfect browning u want. That was tastey.... the potatoes salad is the yellow kind, it was okay but it reminded me of store bought... I know I know I know, when it comes to potatoe salad, everyone loves ❤️ their own very specifically, but my favorite tastes like a deviled egg mixed with potatoes salad with a sweet undertone of like a 🤩 rel .... again, it was ok, but not nothing I'd rave about.... the slaw is yet another one where it's all on preference, I like mine a little dry heck. I even like mine, really juicey, but there's was GREAT n it was more on the drier side.... and lastly, their collard greens already had the twang of the vinegar n slightly buttered. They were 👌 👏 👍 AWESOME!!! OH, let me make a special mention of their sweet tea!! Yummy!!! All in all it was good food n it was less than 20$ for each of our dinners but I wouldn't recommend it for a BBQ spot, now a good easy no fuss very inexpensive...
Read moreThis place was a random stop over on a family trip. We didn’t like that the only other option close by to the gas station we were at was a McDs. So we stopped in through the back entrance as instructed. The inside was a quaint rustic vibe if you look past the fact there were no other customers there, tables and chairs were slightly sticky, and the sad depressing energy overall. We ordered a half rack ribs with some sides. We expected that it would take a while before the food came. But in ten minutes the food came out looking just as depressing as the room. Based on the fact it didn’t smell like fresh food was being cooked up in the restaurant and the speed of which the food came out. It was very clear that we were just served frozen food, probably heated up shortly in an over or microwave. We tried eating it in hope we were wrong in our assumptions. But it was just gross overall. We as a collective decided to just ask for the check and head back to McDs to actually eat something more appetizing. I apologize for how rude this may sound, but I’m just being honest through the eyes of a first timer with hopes to eat something locally popular. Truly...
Read moreThe lettuce in the salad was yellow and brown. Waitress brought another and it wasn't much better. The steak (sirloin) came out with the loaded potato and "mac and cheese". The potato was covered in grease from the cheese substitute and the "macaroni" looked like it had been chewed and spit into the bowl. Obviously they had scooped many scoops from a bucket of mac and cheese breaking all the noodles into tiny pieces. Wouldn't surprise me if they had been scooping at it for days. Never tasted the potato or the mac because one bite into the steak and the meat had a "sweet" flavor to it like it was old or not kept at temperature. I worked in restaurants for 18 years, plenty of time to know when meat has soured. The manager seemed annoyed that their food was something I wouldn't feed to a stray dog and was very unapologetic. This was our second attempt to give them a chance to prove they should still be in business. From the smell of the place as we walked in, we should have left it at one bad experience and turned around. Don't know why so many people talk...
