Shoney's — Restaurant in Orangeburg

Let me start by saying I have never been to a Shoney's. They said they were not cooking from the menu today they only had buffet. Now I love buffets so I was like ohkay even though I came in only really wanting pancakes but it wasn't breakfast time so I knew they probably wouldn't have that on the buffet. Now there is no signs saying what the food is and even though it is buffet it should be hot food still. Now the green beans is most definitely out of a can, so is the corn. The mashed potatoes you can tell use box mashed potatoes. The pulled pork was okay in flavor but was very cold and what I thought was Salisbury steak was really dry overcooked pork chops covered in a very disgusting brown gravy and I love brown gravy so that was a mind blowing thing. Every thing on my plate was cold. The biscuit was dry and the mixed fruit bowl was old and sour smelling but the cantaloupe fruit bowl was okay. The food was not seasoned at all. They asked if the food was good. It was not and I told them no it was really cold and tasted bad we didnt even eat a full plate just kind of pushed stuff around and tried everything. The restaurant is run down. The ac filters in the dining room are filthy, the bathrooms are disgusting worse then some gas station bathrooms, the chairs have rips all in them and after I told them about the food the bill was still almost $20 I feel bad for the waitress but I just wasted money on a disgusting lunch and no one was giving her tips. She needs to find somewhere else to work.Plus all the could hear was the employees complaining about how horrible their boss is. This place shouldn't be aloud to be in business. Can they even pass an inspection? Horrible experience ...

For starters, this is a restaurant but many of the reviews compliment the buffet more. This is my experience;

Came with high hopes to enjoy a nice dinner since this is my first time coming to eat to a Shoney's. Even thou there was not many people(less than a third full) the person sitting me was in a rush. My waiter seem like he was a new waiter(like to the waiter position), because I ordered a coffee and a glass of water and when he brought them and asked me if I was ready to place my food order, I ask him for sugar for my coffee, then place my food order. My dish contained steak(steak and shrimp dish) he left then came back about 2 minutes later to ask me what side I wanted, I told him then he left. Another 2 minutes passed then came back how i wanted my steak. Came back 10 minutes later and told me they did not have steak anymore. So i ordered dessert and reminded him about the sugar for my coffee, he left and came back about 5 minutes later with the sugar. Finished my coffee and no sign of my dessert. Now I've been seating for about 40 minutes since I was seated, then my dessert came. Finished my dessert and never got a coffee refill. When i was about to get up he came and asked me if i was ok and if i wanted more coffee, to which i replied that i was about to leave and he walked away. Waited 5 minutes but no check came, so I got up and ask another waitress if I would just go to the front to pay and she asked if I had my receipt. I said no and she went to get it. Got it and head to the front to pay. My total time was about an hour since I was seated. This was one of the worse service I've experience in a restaurant, and I believe one star...

We have no shoneys left near our home. On our way home from Florida, we drove 20 mins out of our way to eat here. Such a mistake. They no longer offer breakfast all day on their buffet. The food was okay but was limited for a buffet. The waitress stopped by our table once after bringing our drinks. She was pleasant. However, the manager was SO rude. He was standing next to our table with our waitress when she brought us the check. I asked if I paid at the table or up front. The waitress told us that he (pointed to the manager) would check us out upfront. The manager then replies "if I'm up there, I may just run away." Okay, haha, I can take a joke. However, I'm not convinced it was a joke. We waited for him for a few moments, he takes my card, asks me to sign the restaurant copy. The whole time he's messing with this younger girl who is sitting in the lobby. Doesn't acknowledge us, doesn't ask how anything was, tried to have me sign the restaurant copy again because he was too busy aggravating the young girl, that he forgot he had me sign it already. Actually, he never even said anything to us, not "thanks for coming in", "have a good day." Or anything! It was so rude and I've never seen a "manager" act as childish as he was. Even the young girl sitting in the lobby seemed annoyed by his constant harassment. Even if we are back in the area, we will not be...
