I would like to start off by saying every time I've had breakfast at Spring Valley it has been great and an easy 5 star. Tonight was my first time having dinner here. I came with 2 of my friends, after telling them the restaurant was a good place to eat in Oregon. I didn't expect us all to be disappointed. It started out weird, one waitress took our drink order and the other came by to ask our food order. The one who took our food order apparently didn't communicate this to the other waitress since she came back for it too. Both of them looked like they hated their jobs and weren't the slightest bit friendly. We got our soups and salads for our meals right away, but then waited about an hour for the rest of our food. They weren't overally busy inside either. One of my friends received her food quite a bit earlier, regardless of us all putting our orders in at the same time. My chicken fried steak was ok, I did not care for the mac&cheese though. It featured 3 different kinds of noodles thrown together and they all tasted over cooked. One friend ordered a burger and she enjoyed it. She had mozzarella sticks on the side and received a meat sauce instead of traditional marinara though. The other friend ordered chicken stir fry and she couldn't even finish her meal. The sauce and the salt were too overpowering. Then when we received our ticket, all of our food was together even though we had asked 3 times from the start to have separate checks. We were then told they would divide it at the register and every worker seemed to think this was the most complicated task in the world and seemed annoyed with us. We definately will choose a different place for our next...
Read moreMy friend, his wife, their two kids as well as my girlfriend, our son, and myself ordered some burgers, a steaks, a "Nashville" hot chicken, and a Mickey pancake and sausage.
The burgers were all overcooked and inedible, not one of the 4 burgers ordered was able to be finished. Everyone would taste it and had a horrible grimace on their face, including a one year old child who choked on the dry burger.
The steak was grey and very bland. It was cooked properly, but was also inedible as a majority was just fat. The mashed potatoes tasted like fake, powered potatoes.
My 8 and a half month old son had the Mickey pancake and sausage. The pancake tasted like a normal boxed pancake mix and was fine, but then again it's hard to mess up a pancake. The sausage on the other hand had some pink on the inside and luckily we noticed before giving it to him.
That leaves my "Nashville" "Hot" Chicken sandwich. The chicken was not Nashville nor hot. It had a weird chili paste slathered on either side of the chicken and did not taste good at all. The spicy aspect was so lack luster that the only person who would notice it would never have tasted spice before. The pickles were hard to bite through and seemed old. The chicken itself is supposed to be thigh meat but was drier than a bone (which is hard to do with a thigh) and the breading was not crispy. The house made chips I had were decent but undersalted.
In the end we will NOT be going back and are disappointed. No one finished their meal and some of us are starting to...
Read moreI've been eating at Spring Valley for over 20 years. This is not only a family restaurant to me. The people who own and operate this restaurant are like family to my family and I. That is because we have continued to go there and appreciate their friendly atmosphere. The fair is as good as it gets in Oregon Illinois. There are probably at least 15 dinerys in and around Oregon and I've tried them all but I continue to go back to Spring Valley for many reasons. First and foremost is because of the fair, of course! I've never really had a major complaint about the food because as far as I am concerned it is always plentiful, tasty and fresh. The soup which varies day to day is to die for. If you like plain, simple, country cooking which will give you absolutely every reason to feel satiated and satisfied, this is the place to go. If you walk away from the table after finishing your meal and aren't pleasantly fulfilled, it yo' own damn fault. One thing, tell them to put the shredded cheese on the side......they overdue...
