My family and I have bought food from here many times and it's never consistent. Quality is all over the place. The broth was extremely dark at times, and lighter on others. Same goes for the fried wonton strips, i've had them forget to put any in the bag or only give us one for our entire order. I remember opening a bag and they were floppy and undercooked and the bag was actually sopping wet because the oil they were fried in hadn't dried. For our fortune cookies they've also forgotten to add them to our orders at all plenty of times. Or only give us 1-2. For reference, we order enough food for 3-5 people. We've gotten beef lomaine noodles before and after eating the beef my brother got really sick so we don't order it anymore. Someone else in my family also ordered a dish we didn't usually get and I don't remember what the problem was I only remember offering to cook something else so that he wouldn't be hungry. We actually used to go to a different chinese restaurant but they closed so Moonstar it is.
If anyone is reading this to find out if this place is safe to eat/allergy friendly (especially nuts/peanuts) IT IS NOT, of course if you ask they'll say that it is but one ambulance ride later quickly proved them wrong, they're lucky nothing serious happened, that's how people die!!
Last time I went here it smelled... bad, thankfully it wasn't that strong but it was similar to the smell you get in a nursing home or your grandma's house, I thought this was weird since restaurants tend to smell like the food the cook so maybe it's one of the ingredients but I wouldn't recommend dining-in if you're sensitive to smells
TLDR: food contamination, food is sometimes undercooked and inedible, don't trust the meat here, the restaurant itself...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of dining at Moonstar Chinese Restaurant, and I must say, it was an unforgettable experience. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted by a vibrant atmosphere that transported me straight to the heart of China.
The moment I sat down, I was immediately captivated by the delightful aroma of exotic spices that filled the air. The restaurant's ambiance was beautifully designed, with elegant red lanterns hanging from the ceiling, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. The staff, were incredibly attentive and eager to ensure my dining experience was nothing short of perfect.
Now, let's talk about the food. The menu at Moonstar boasted an impressive array of dishes that spanned the rich tapestry of Chinese cuisine. From Szechuan spicy dishes to delicate dim sum, every dish presented to me was a work of art. The flavors were exquisitely balanced, with each bite offering a harmonious blend of spices and textures. The chefs at Moonstar clearly took great pride in their craft, as the presentation was nothing short...
Read moreI've been eating this gigaslop since the family owned Ming Moon back in the early 2000's prior to opening their restaurant. The food is quality compared to a lot of frugal Asian restaurants and the portions are massive for the price. Their Mapo Tofu is better than every upscale place I've been to and I've traveled all over the United States. It's not spicy but if you ask for maximum spice it'll hurt tomorrow. You can ask for Mapo with pineapple sesame oil instead of chili oil and they will ablige if you're a wuss or don't have an iron gut.
The fried rice is amazing and they don't really charge extra for it like most places. They add quite a lot of veggies to their dishes and fried rice unlike some Asian restaurants. Definitely a bonus.
They once gave me a free meal when I realized I didn't have any cash on me when they went cash only. I said I'd tip them next time and the teenage kid said "no tips are necessary". They're a kind, wholesome, hard working family.
