I previously loved this place and have visited so frequently that certain staff members even know me by name. However over the weekend I held my birthday celebration here with about 20+ people and was surprised when I heard that a group of my friends had been rudely and condescendingly addressed by one of the staff members when at the bar attempting to order another cider. Instead of being told that legally the staff is not allowed to serve more than so many imperial ciders within a certain time frame as it is a liability for the pub (as one of the other staff members was nice enough to explain to me after I had inquired as to why 3 of my friends were being refused service), this particular server told my friends to 'go drink some water'. If this server would have instead given my friends the reasoning behind why they could not legally be served another cider at that very moment they would have absolutely understood. When I told the other two staff members that were there that my friends would have appreciated and understood the explanation that they had given us rather than the condescending remark that they had received, they mentioned that the particular staff member who made that remark had been sick which could have been why she came off so rude. Personally, I don't believe that's a valid excuse at all. I am disappointed that this place that I love so much and wanted to share with all my friends left such a bitter...
Read moreThis was my first time there, and a friend said it was his current favorite spot. The staff was nice and let me try a few ciders which was great because the one I would have ordered without a tasting I liked the least. The cider was so enjoyable I took some home for later.
Now on to the food. I ordered a beef and Guinness pasty. It was very overcooked to the point that I asked for gravy because it was so dry. No gravy available so I used a little barbeque sauce (sacrilege!) The salad was quite large and fresh, but was only lettuce with a few carrot shavings.
I decided to take dessert home as my son cares for my bedbound mother and they are unable to go out. I ordered one of each of their deserts: the scrumpy cake, the fresh baked apple pasty, and the cloudless chocolate torte, all without ice cream. Once home, I opened the first box and thought they made a mistake. It was a burnt pasty. The chocolate torte was okay but not liked enough by any of us to finish, and the scrumpy cake was okay. I kept it and hope to try it later. The mistake ended up being the Apple pasty, and this alone would normally give a restaurant 1 star. I pulled off an end to eat the Apple and just that was awful. My mom, who loves pastry, dug at it and gave up. I just have to ask, how can you justify selling food like this? I paid out $25 on desserts alone, and only one was okay enough to eat. I posted a photo on...
Read moreI came in here with my brothers on Saturday and we waited over 15-20 minutes for someone to serve us. We kept making eye contact with the older lady who was probably in her 50s-60s, short brown hair, and had headphones around her neck. She kept on serving everyone around her but she she’d get close to our table it seemed liked she’d find any excuse to not come to our table. Maybe cause we were the only young and hispanic/native people in there? All the other people that got seated after us seemed to get her attention right away. Finally when we thought she was finally going to serve us she comes up to the table and then quickly before she could even say anything decides to serve the table next to us who had been there already way before we got there and was finishing up their drinks. Another server who was cleaning the table behind us saw what she did and stopped what she was doing to come take our order. I forgot her name but she’s the curly haired waitress with glasses. She’s amazing. Everyone else who was working her was great and very nice except that old lady. We came in here because my brother had come in the week before with his girlfriend and wanted to come back to show my older brother and I the place. But we will probably never come back again because of that old lady’s...
