My wife and I tried Orion Grill for the first time and when we walked in we were very impressed by how friendly the hostess and wait staff was. As soon as we sat down we were both saying how this could be our new Sunday spot.
Being that my wife has a plant allergy we requested that her breakfast be made with butter on the grill instead of any cooking oils or margarine. We are not high maintenance people or "fussy" - she just has an allergy plain and simple.
The waitress understood and was super kind about it - however, the owner seemed to have a HUGE problem with this request (we could hear her yelling at the waitress) and eluded to this being a "one time exception" and claimed that "butter and margarine are the same thing"...which it's not at all...margarine is a substitute for butter and contains plants which a quick google search can confirm.
When our food came out the waitress pointed out that the toast probably has margarine and asked if we wanted her to have it come out dry with butter on the side instead - we said yes. Well 10 mins went by and the waitress apologized for the toast taking so long and said that she had not exchanged it yet because she was afraid of the owner and was going to "get yelled at again".
At this point I had it and told her not to exchange the toast because I did not want her to get yelled at either and we just finished our breakfast and asked for the check. I tipped the waitress 30% and we left.
As far as the food - it was actually pretty good. However, as a business owner myself with 800 employees I will NOT support a business owner that treats their employees in a disrespectful manner.
If you read other reviews of this place there have been quite a few where customers have mentioned the owner yelling at the employees...where she has responded and said "the kitchen is loud and it's the only way they can hear me". Stop lying please...there is a HUGE difference between "order up" and your employees being in fear of exchanging toast because of how you treat them.
Learn how to be respectful to your employees - especially when they are trying to do right by your customers.
There is another place a quarter mile up the road called "Bread and Yolk" that we frequent. Great service, great food, and I have never seen the owner disrespect his staff. Go...
Read moreSave your hard earned dollars. I came for dinner service. If I was rating based on the staff and decorations, I would give it 4 stars, but sadly this is not a beauty pageant, this is a restaurant.
I personally tried the fish and chips, and the cheeseburger. The fish and chips were decently priced ($13), but were terrible. My deep-fried cod was soggy, and clearly must've been frozen as I've never had fresh fried fish be soggy. The fries were cooked well, but completely bland. My cheeseburger ($7.50) was palatable, but plated upside down so my top bun was extremely soggy. They also forgot to put any condiments on my burger. I would've preferred a Big Mac. Cheeseburgers are also served ala carte which is strange to me, so If I wanted a burger and fries, I would have to buy both separately.
My Fiancé got chicken tenders, as that is her safe menu option. The chicken tenders were completely bland. Not a hint of seasoning to any capacity on it. They were also very clearly frozen. She got sweet potato fries with them, which again, were decent but bland.
The salad and soup beforehand were palatable. I got the lemon rice soup which tasted good but was not as creamy to my liking, and my Fiancé got a salad which was alright. They don't have Italian dressing, which I feel should be a staple for most casual-dining restaurants.
I expressed distaste about the fish and chips to whom I presume was one of the owners/managers, and they kindly took it off of my tab, which I thought was a good, redeeming gesture.
As good as the facelift was for the Orion Grill, a pretty appearance isn't enough to save a restaurant whose food I wouldn't feed to my dog. Maybe I'll try it again in a few months to see if...
Read moreAn overall questionable experience. The environment felt disorganized. My wife and I were seated immediately, and our table was already set with silverware and menus. Not one minute later, another couple came out from the bathrooms and found us sitting at the table they had been seated at just minutes prior. They sat at an adjacent table on their own.
The (presumably) manager came by and started reading the soups and specials, and I interrupted him to explain that these other people had kind of been kicked out of their seats; it seemed possible they would get lost in the woodwork of the chaos. The manager apologized to them and whatnot.
The corn chowder was great. Really top-notch, didn't need any seasoning.
The chicken tenders were below average. They looked like they were taken from a bag of pre-cooked, frozen strips and not freshly made. Indeed, they didn't taste clean or satisfying; a rather dirty and artificial taste. The French fries were similarly dead of flavor and came clumped together.
I really wished we had just gone to Leo's or Kirby's or somewhere similar; at least their basic staples taste freshly made, if regular and uninspiring.
Our waitress was pleasant and attentive; no complaints on the service in and of itself.
Overnight, both my wife and I felt extraordinarily dehydrated and somewhat sickened, and we could only think to blame the most questionable chicken tenders we had in recent memory.
As I said, our experience was a mixed bag that left us wanting more corn chowder and far less of everything else. Somewhat disappointed with the vibes and certainly unhappy to feel...
