I have been going to Pops for a while...So this a pretty fair review. The good.....The fries are some of the best ( I prefer the thin cut fries)......Wife likes the zucchini, mushrooms, chicken sandwich but it's just frozen fried food.....The problem is, Pops believes in fast service instead of quality......I can't get the hot dogs anymore because they're overcooked to the point where the casings are brown and mushy.....Hot dogs should have a nice snap.....A jumbo dog charbroiled on the grill would be great but they're boiled and mushy too.....They cook their burgers about 15 at a time, throw them in a bin, then reheat them for 30 seconds to order....You'll never get a juicy burger at Pops.....They put the cheese on top of the beef sandwich then wrap it in plastic.....The mozzerella cheese sticks to the plastic paper so I've actually eaten paper that I missed, trying to save as much cheese as I can.....The cheese should always go on the bread first, with the beef on top so it melts the cheese.....I tried the gyro today.....Small sandwich, very little meat......The pita was toasty and crisp from the grill but the meat was warm and mushy....Maybe they have the meat ready in a pot and throw it on the grill for 30 seconds to warm it up too? I'll have to watch next time.....It shouldn't be that hard to cut the meat, hot, right off the spit....... So I ask myself, why do I keep coming back? The fries are really good, there's really nothing else out here, and Portillo's is too far of a drive, but I may start making that drive...
Read moreUpon returning again, I had another Italian beef. I wanted to mention how the food was and tell the owner I had left a review before; instead he ignored me.
I approached him after washing my hands, take a moment to thank him. A customer was coming up to get their food, but discovered the order was wrong. Had ordered seasoned fries and was given regular fries.
So I was courteous to wait; Mark acknowledged me, but then pretended I wasn't still standing there and asked what I wanted. Seemed bothered to speak to me. Never asked how the food was. Just a cold stare. Odd.
Food is ok. Management, not so much. Didn't expect to be looked down on. We had talked in the past, I've been respectful. When someone decides they don't like you, what can you do? That is his problem.
My initial review from earlier in September this year:
So glad I stopped here at Pop's (OP Wolf Rd.) today! Went with their bigger Italian beef, dipped with sweet peppers. Was impressed with the quality and portion size; and the sweet peppers, was just about a half bell pepper! Fresh and hot. (Guess I need to learn how to cook...
Read moreWe were in there on 7-31 because we heard their food was very good, and we were in the area. So we thought we'd try it....we spent $40.92 on food that sucked. The fries were old, the beef was dry, and we were charged for peppers on 2 sandwiches that we didn't get. So I called there , talked to a manager and because we wouldn't bring the nasty food back ( we live 30 miles away) the manager said she would credit us only for the 2 sandwiches with no peppers even though we ordered 3 sandwiches.....they were all dry!! But because the third sandwich had no peppers, no credit was givenand the old hard fries..... No credit for those either.... Very disappointing experience. Should have just waited til we got home and went to Portillos and not be disappointed in where I...
