Avoid Stardust Video and Coffee / Poor Customer Service
I've been here before plenty of times and have definitely noticed that most of the staff seem aloof, but M. at the cash register takes rude to a new level. Menu is limited to 8 items now, of which one is a waffle. She seemed surprised that there was a waffle on the menu, but after I showed her there was, she allowed us to proceed to order that for our 4-year-old daughter's dinner, and I asked questions like "is there syrup on it?" and "is there butter on it?" to which she shrugged and did not know the answer. I mean... a waffle is on a menu; I didn't think either of these questions were particularly out-of-the-ordinary. I should have known then we'd never be seeing that waffle. So, we pay, we sit down, we wait for our food to arrive, and alas... my husband's food and my food arrives, but no waffle. Luckily there were some chips with our meals, so our daughter snacked on those while asking us where her waffle was. So, about a half-an-hour after ordering, I walked back up to the counter and politely asked the same person if the waffle was still coming out. To which she replied "Yes," and then RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME, making no attempt whatsoever to hide her error, asked the line cook "Can you make a waffle?" I was aghast that she'd never put the order in, wondering if maybe she'd forgotten, but I let it go. I know the talent pool is limited these days; I know not to expect a Ritz Carlton (or even Chick-Fil-A level of service) everywhere I dine. The restaurant was not busy; there were 3 people there on their computers who appeared to have been there all afternoon and were not actively ordering anything; there was a couple who came in before us who ordered and was now seated at the bar with their food and drinks; and there was another family who was seated and enjoying their food and beverages at this point. At this point, it was just time to make a waffle, literally (or let us know no waffle was going to be made). So, we want another 25 minutes. No waffle. My daughter is starving at this point. My husband and I have long since finished our respective dinners. So, my husband decided to go up to her at the counter again to ask for a refund since - after an hour - we're ready to leave and we still have not received the waffle. She processes the refund and shared with him that the restaurant does not have a working waffle iron. They haven't the entire time, which explains why she was initially surprised it was even on the menu. So, my daughter was NEVER getting that waffle for dinner. And she knew it. Yet she gladly took our money and had no problem lying to me TWICE that we'd be receiving a waffle. And then she had the audacity to get an attitude with me when I called her out on it as we were leaving. I asked for her name so I could warn my friends and neighbors about our experience, but she refused to give it. I asked to speak to her manager, but she said that there weren't any. I then asked the next employee who walked by what her name was, and he told me that if I wanted to complain about her, I could complain about the whole restaurant. So, here I am, doing as I was encouraged to do. Fortunately, after we left, I noticed her name on the receipt. So just as a fair warning friends and neighbors, if you are looking for a nice night out to grab a bite and libation, this may not be what you're looking for.
[[Update - I have spoken to the owner / manager, who was a very nice gentleman and shared with me the challenges of operating a small business / restaurant during these times. As I stated above, this is not lost on me. He also apologized to me, which felt validating after how we were treated. It doesn't change the experience, but because of his kindness, I upgraded the # of...
Read moreMy friends and I used to adore this place and were regulars three/four years ago but after covid its never been the same and we've all stopped coming. Stardust had so much personality and life and now the workers and poor service just ruins the experience. The baristas always seem to be in a bad mood or start doing other tasks and disappear randomly when the place is not even busy and rarely greet customers. No amount of bad attitudes and waiting is worth an average cup of coffee here even with the cute interior.
Today myself and another 7 people were waiting in line when the barista randomly disappeared for literally 20 minutes, I counted because I've had this experience with this barista before. We all waited patiently just for her to come back, not apologize and have an attitude. I ordered a 16oz latte, she made a 16oz iced latte, I politely corrected her and she groaned and started remaking it passive aggressively, but she made a 10oz latte instead of the 16oz and charged me for a 16oz, I didnt even correct her again because I just wanted to leave at that point. A few days ago the same barista was working with the attitude always seeming like she hated her life and questionably drowsy......zero sense of urgency or good customer service when there's people looking at her and waiting. A man in front of me was trying to order a beer and ask about different liquors and she was rude and impatient! And last week before this I was standing in a line of maybe six people watching the same barista ignore customers when the kitchen lady came out to pet a dog in line with her bare hands and then go back into the kitchen, maybe she washed her hands before touching food again but who knows...
I've moved away from Orlando now but everytime I come back to visit friends and family I would stop by Stardust because it used to be my favorite little place and I just am not even going to bother anymore. My recent experiences are mostly with this one barista but I can think of previous occasions where different baristas also have a similar negative attitude. I'm sure other customers have noticed the subpar service from the...
Read moreI’ve heard so many good things about Stardust, but I had never had the chance to come visit. Since I happened to be in the area, I took advantage of it to come by, and I was so glad I did. First off, I was a little bit confused about the ordering process. Although their “inside” is open, you have to make your purchase outside by the window in the corner, then head inside or stay outside. I understand perhaps the need for this to relieve occupancy inside with Covid and all, but it is confusing nonetheless. Regardless, the staff was very kind and helpful, even offering recommendations. Unfortunately however, I did not see that many menu choices, so I stuck with a delicious Tiramisu Cappuccino that was recommended. Inside, the ambience was very nice. Full of lights, art, books, and so much more. Plenty of tables were available, including somewhat private 2-person booths. Maybe this is not that kind of establishment, but I felt that for a coffeeshop it seemed amiss that there were no sofas or even just an armchair, only just tables with chairs. I felt that had these been also present, that it would have really added to the whole ambience and made it more amenable. I visited quite late in the evening, and perhaps it was some kind of setup for the time, but their music was blasting too. I love music of all choices, so I didn’t mind the music playing, but what it did kinda bothered me was how excessively loud it was. Most other patrons were sitting outside, which was much more quieter than inside. The only other person inside clearly was aware of this and had noise canceling headphones on. Regardless, this establishment is amazing, and I truly recommend you to come visit and enjoy. I know for a fact I will be back. The only reason I am giving this experience 4 stars instead of 5, is the few little things mentioned above. However, don’t let it...
