Pls note: TAKE OUT ONLY, NO DINE IN. Our food, although not super authentic was for the most part, very good. It seems that the menu is a mixture of creativity, Japanese, Thai, and Chinese components. Do not go expecting Chinese food that you have eaten elsewhere... This version has its own spin. The best of our dinner was the Egg Foo Yung...in St. Louis, the patties are similar, but the gravy is very different. Usually, the gravy is dark, rich, and smothers the egg patties. This version of sauce is light, has a curry taste, and is a perfect sauce to the foo yung. It was served on the side. The beef lo mein was delicious, and the beef slices were tender and very tasty. The cashew chicken was interesting. It was a deep-fried chicken patty that was chopped into pieces, covered in a "Springfield" sauce and just a few pieces of toasted cashews. Nice atmosphere, the staff was fairly friendly, and our appetizers arrived quickly. I ordered chicken lo mein, and when it arrived my partner tasted it first. He said it tasted like peanuts and I knew something was weird. We called over the waitress and asked her if there were peanuts in the sauce. She responded "No, but there's peanut butter." I am allergic to peanuts. Peanut butter is made of peanuts. The waitress did not offer us a new dish or a refund even though peanuts were not listed in the menu. Do not eat here if you are...
Read moreI have reviewed Zen several times. It is reliably excellent, at least for Chinese food in Mid-Missouri. Currently they remain carry-out only, ever since the start of the pandemic. Their Hunan beef is my favorite. I usually also get a side of gyoza. My daughter is a vegan and enjoys their tofu broccoli, tofu kung pao, and vegetable lo mein. She usually helps her gets the veggie spring rolls. My son likes the General Tso's chicken. My wife usually gets one of the tofu dishes, and likes the hot and sour soup, egg rolls, and excellent crab rangoon. I also have had excellent sushi in the past, though I haven't had it recently. No complaints. Food is usually ready very fast and is...
