El Camino Real Mexican Restaurant — Restaurant in Owensboro

The food was okay, but the service we experienced here was terrible. There seemed to be only one girl and one guy running the entire dining room, we were served by both of them throughout our extremely long, nearly two hour, dinner visit. We walked in right at 7pm and there was no staff in the dining room. We weren’t even seated until 10 minutes later when the female server brought out a to-go order. While we were immediately served drinks, chips, and salsa, a server did not return to us to take our entree order until 7:45. After that, we did not even see a server to be able to grab their attention until they brought our food out at 8:25. At this point another table that had came in after us had requested their order to-go and already left as they were tired of waiting (we did notice they returned shortly after, seemingly because their order was missing items). Not one time during visit did anyone refill our chips (we ordered a $4 cheese dip that we didn’t even get to eat half of, also would like to note that it tastes extremely similar to the store-bought Gordo’s cheese dip and was not really enjoyable). We didn’t get any drink refills either and my glass was empty before I even placed my food order. After finishing our food we waited on a server to come out to get their attention so we could get out checks and leave. This took a while and we didn’t get our checks until right at 8:45, and the server immediately went back to the kitchen leaving us to wait yet another 5 minutes standing at the register to pay.

We are new to the area, and after reading reviews for this restaurant we thought we had found a nice little hole-in-the-wall place near our apartment that could be a go-to spot, as Mexican food is my favorite on almost any occasion. After our experience tonight, we will definitely NOT...

One of the worst customer experiences I have encountered at a restaurant. The only highlight was that we were seated immediately and our order was taken quickly.

After ordering it took over an hour for our food to be prepared (only one other table was being served). When the food arrived at our table we had to ask three different staff members for silverware as we had none. By the time we got silverware all the food was cold not to mention that any meat other than the fish was nearly too tough to eat. In addition no chips or drinks...

Soooooooooooooo, so, so good! Having your own salsa is such a commodity!!! And where they do that at??? Here! My 7 year old gave them a 5 star review(5 out of 5)!!! He had the grilled chicken enchiladas, queso, and fried ice cream! He loved everything he ordered! I had chunky guacamole and a carnitas taco! Best salsa in town!!!! 2 for one margaritas!
