I was excited to try Oxford's newest restaurant, Angora, which I had been anxiously awaiting the open of for a few months now. I had heard that there had been a bit of a rocky start because of service and staffing issues (which is understandable for any new restaurant getting into the swing of things), but when I had lunch there last week I didn't find any issues at all.
The service was very good, with our waitress and someone who I believe was the hostess or manager coming around checking to make sure we didn't need anything frequently.
It had a good atmosphere. The inside was spacious for its size and very clean.
The food did take a little time to come out, but it was the lunch rush and they were fairly busy. I noticed a lot of take out orders being picked up and they may have been prioritizing those, which makes sense as people who do take out are typically on a time crunch while those eating in are prepared to relax and take their time eating as was the case with us.
But it didn't take an unreasonable amount of time to get our food at all and when we did it was hot, delicious and nothing was wrong. I really don't mind waiting if all those things are true when I do get the food and in this case they checked all the boxes.
I actually got the fish and chips, which was nice because there's not really anywhere in Oxford that has fish and chips. That said, it felt a little weird and almost blasphemous even to order fish and chips at a Mediterranean restaurant. I had come there fully prepared to enjoy some Mediterranean cuisine, particularly Greek and Middle Eastern, but ended up getting fish and chips.
And that brings me to my only real disappointment: I didn't find the Mediterranean selections on the menu to be as extensive or diverse as I had hoped and I ordered fish and chips (which was delicious by the way) over any options they did have out of the lack of variety of Mediterranean food.
Now, don't get me wrong, they do have some Mediterranean dishes, but they're of the very standard variety like gyros, hummus, falafel and kabobs. There is also a more focus on traditionally Italian dishes than I expected. I was hoping for something closer to the Mediterranean Deli in Chapel Hill or Neomonde.
I really hope in the future they expand the variety of those types of dishes on the menu. They should be fearless and just go wild in my opinion, even if it's limited to specials. People in Oxford are itching for something different from what's available in the area. My understanding is the owner is Turkish and I'm sure some of the things he can make that aren't on the menu (at least not currently) are incredible.
So that last part isn't really a complaint, just a suggestion because there's so much potential to this place and I want to keep going back and trying different delicious food with the wonderful service...
Read moreThis gem of an eatery is located in the downtown area of a small town across from the courthouse & several shopping experiences walking distance. Formerly named Milano this restaurant has old school charm. The new owners have adapted a minimalist decor with clean lines but the charm remains. My husband and I had an awesome dining in experience. The server- a young lady - we felt she excelled in customer hospitality- she was knowledgeable- courteous- kind - respectful- thoughtful- our food was delicious- mouth watering- freshly made- the menu offers several Italian dishes & more. I had the eggplant Parmesan entree with a side salad. Absolutely more than a generous serving- a take home meal for the next day. The spaghetti was so delicious- hot savory- seasoned just right- the eggplant just melted in my mouth- the food was not overly salty but just right. The hubby had spaghetti also - his was equally delicious. Small pieces of warm bread with a dipping sauce served before the meal. This is not a fancy place- we felt comfortable & appreciated as a patron. We look forward to dining at this location...
Read moreThis place is Amazing! The place is charming, the staff super personable. And from the moment they brought out complimentary fresh baked pita and seasoned dipping oil, we knew we were in for a treat! We did not get disappointed. My husband got the Greek salad which he says is the first REAL Greek salad he has had in years! I got the Rustica Pasta and it was Devine! Hubby had to help me eat it there was so much food. We got the baklava cheesecake to go and will post an update when we aren't too full to eat it, lol. Also we couldn't believe how reasonable the prices were for such a high quality meal. We will definitely be back the next time we are in the area. Oh, and if you like stuffed grape leaves, let them know. I love them! But they are having trouble getting people on board trying them. So if you do... Get them. They are on the Greek salad and are...
