Going to go a little easy since this place just opened and they're still figuring it out, but overall I am pleased.
The service was attentive friendly and the owner is super nice and you can tell she loves what she's doing.
The food was hot and served fast. There is a system where you have to order at a register, take a number and sit down to wait for your food. This seemed to confuse people who didn't see a hostess and just sat down waiting for a server.
I hope the menu expands over time. Right now it is very small with few sides and not many I like. They were out of potato salad but informed me they had fries which were not on the menu. But they didn't tell my buddy that was an option and he he stuck with the least bad option. One common complaint I have at BBQ restaurants is the lack of quality sides so I hope this place rises above.
The BBQ sandwich was delicious. I had asked for no slaw but it arrived with slaw anyway. But it wasn't much so it didn't bother me. Normally places pile on the slaw so I just ask them to not put any on.
I had the IPA and the Cider. Both were awesome. Looking forward to when the Imperial Stouts are on tap.
I hope they make the decor and atmosphere stand out more to make it more unique. The walls were kinda bare. It would also be cool if they do watch parties and that sorta thing eventually. Oxford doesn't have anything like that.
I really see a lot of good with this place and my few issues all seem like they'll be ironed...
Read moreWhen we arrived at Tobacco Wood, we'd been on the road for a bit, and I rushed straight to the bathroom. By the time I came out, I encountered a most delightful sight: my 6 year-old daughter clutching a plastic cup filled with a bubbly pink liquid, happily declaring, "Mama, they made me a Shirley Temple! With a cherry!"
When we go to a brewery, I typically expect my husband will sample some beers he'll enjoy while my daughter and I sip water and eat a few bites of marginally good appetizers. This was definitely NOT our experience at Tobacco Wood.
Though I don't love beer, I do enjoy a good cider, and I started off with the Grizzly Pear--which was delicious. While I set my daughter up with her Shirley Temple and some toys, my husband finished ordering--and he picked some winners! The bbq nachos (on amazing homemade chips) and soft pretzel with cheese sauce were clearly fresh from the kitchen, and my husband delighted in his flight of beers. The service, while never overwhelming, was warm and easy-going, and I was particularly pleased to find I could even order a glass of wine for myself.
It's not often easy to find a brewery that has great beer and food, still offers wine, and welcomes whole families--but this one does all of that and more. We wish we lived closer and could...
Read moreWe went there one rain-shortened ride, because we had heard Johnson Family BBQ was served there. As expected the food was wonderful. Service wasn't st great, but it was a new business and growing pains to be expected. A week or two later, we returned to the same great food, and improved service. Two weeks later, and I tried something simple and easy... a Chicken Salad sandwich. My friend got his BBQ sandwich promptly, and we began to joke about waiting for the eggs to hatch, before making the chicken salad. I asked the server what happened to my chicken Salad, and she went off to the kitchen... she came back with "they lost the order, ad are making it now". A few minutes later, she returned with a grilled chicken sandwich, . I decided the wrong lunch was better than no lunch. No apologies, no we'll comp this, nothing, just business as usual Still one out of 3 isn't terrible We returned yet again... and this time ordered the special "Brisket tacos" Brisket taco would be more like it, a single taco, cut into 4 pieces, and it was NOT particularly good. Oh well it was "nice" to have a go-to-place, that was close enough for a short ride, but we could still squeeze in...
