We held the wedding and reception for our daughter’s wedding at the Robert Morris Inn in Oxford, Md on July 30th, 2015. We could not be more delighted with the experience and the final result. We are from CT and the bride and groom are local. It was a small wedding of 31 people. We and the bride and groom separately met with Eve as the Events Manager, a number of times, and had numerous emails and telephone calls regarding the reception details. Eve was always immediately responsive to our calls and emails and gracious and helpful at all times. The Robert Morris was most accommodating and helpful regarding the table and room arrangements, the menu, the room for the bride and our dog. Eve helped us coordinate gluten free and vegetarian issues with the Chef as well as devise a good children’s menu for five grandchildren and otherwise have a wonderful menu at a price we could afford. They worked with us regarding a dessert alternative. They were most cooperative with us regarding the reception room arrangements including our substitution of rented round tables. They were cooperative with the rental company delivery and pick-up, the wedding cake baker and florist. Also, Eleanor was very helpful in last minute preparations.
The wedding was to have taken place in Oxford Park overlooking the water, but unfortunately a storm blew in just before the wedding and lingered too long. There came a point when we could no longer delay and had to conduct the wedding in a smaller lounge room at the Robert Morris Inn. We had discussed this weather fall-back with Eve, but she was stupendous in being present, making the adjustments to the room to accommodate the number of people and to have the wedding turn from a disappointing turn of events to a lovely intimate setting for a beautiful wedding. The Robert Morris staff were fantastic in adjusting to the time table delays. We never felt rushed, got our photographs, had our hors d’oeuvres, a fantastic tasting meal, the wedding cake cutting and dancing. Marguerite and her wait staff were attentive but discreetly invisible. In other words, the Robert Morris gave us a wonderful experience and memories in a lovely waterside and historic setting. The bride and groom and everyone attending were most...
Read moreHave had great experience staying there over many years, but this time we got a room that left a lot to be desired. Several things in room 6 in disrepair. About the size of a postage stamp. Rooms 1 and 2 are the best. Have had great experience there previously.
The restaurant always has great food and service
3-11-23 In response to RMI response- (which is SEVEN MONTHS AFTER OUR REVIEW!!!) ; Well--- We know the owners pretty well and as I mentioned- we have had some great experiences at the Inn over MANY years. We even drive there from DC JUST FOR DINNER! We know the rooms pretty well too except for the last one we stayed at (room 6) for our anniversary in July, which, as we learned, is hands down, the worst room! Rooms 1 and 2 are the best for staying in the original section. But, this time, we just wanted to grab a reservation at the last minute and didn't make arrangements for our favorite rooms.
But, I can tell you that room 6 is NOT constantly being improved! Not by any stretch of the imagination. From the condition of the wallpaper to the shower handles to the soap dispenser that was hanging by a thread, to vacuuming spots being missed. Whatever pictures you take of the rooms do NOT show the problem areas!! We took pictures too AND mentioned our issues when we were there. I also know for a fact that you had significant staff shortages and linen supply issues during that time. We actually should have received a discount on our stay.
As I mentioned, usually we know exactly what room to ask for. We just didn't this time. We have loved the Inn for many years as well as the staff and restaurant!
Next time, we just know to make sure we get the same rooms that we have so enjoyed previously and hopefully, the service problems you encountered as a result of Covid are a thing of the...
Read moreThis review is for the inn not the tavern.
My husband and I stayed a night in a cozy room and let’s just say that it felt like we were transported to the 1800s. The room had the bare essentials but nothing more. It was the most uncomfortable 3 star hotel I’ve ever stayed at and let me just list a few things so that management may consider for future guests. It seems they focus more on their restaurant than their inn.
Consider the modern human being and add hand towel rods, towel hooks in the bathroom for convenience. We had one extra hook on the top of the 6 foot door and that was it. The cozy rooms feels about 100 sq feet and there is a window AC. The window AC is an old model so it doesn’t detect room temperature so it blew on me the entire night. I was so worried i would get sick but hated that i was sweating for half the night that I barely slept. Bathroom door squeaks, spray some WD-40 on the hinges. We killed 4 small moths in our room. I’m not sure if that means the room is dusty and needs more thorough upkeep. The closet needs more than two mismatching hangers. Add a fitted sheet to cover the mattress, the flat sheet pulls up quite easily. Atleast the bed wasn’t squeaky - perhaps the only good thing. WiFi barely works and stopped at 11:30pm. We thought we used up the hotels bandwidth or maybe we were at the back so the signal was poor. The streets are dark outside after sunset and there is no TV at the inn so better internet would be nice.
Conclusion- A quaint, quiet and historic stay with the bare essentials that does not include the expected modern conveniences for the 21st century human to be a...
