Our experience was pretty awful. Perhaps they’re understaffed or there’s some sort of explanation for our experience today, but that doesn’t change our experience. Apparently you seat yourself. No greeting, no explanation to seat yourself. Figure it out. I finally walked around long enough that a guy was forced to talk to me ( I had to confront him-and did so kindly) and he showed me where we could sit. However, a member of our party is in a wheelchair and there are multiple steps involved in this entire property and to get to the spot he showed us we could sit in. She could actually only sit in one section in the entire restaurant, and thankfully a table opened up right about this time. This restaurant is TERRIBLE for a wheelchair user. It is very hard to get in with loose boards on the rickety, little ramp you have to use and several small rises to get over to get in the front door. I know it’s an old building, but the very small part that is accessible needs to be fixed. It is dangerous.
Service was slow, but at least she was friendly and had a smile. We finally order. Wait. Wait some more. Most of our food comes out and we are told our baked potatoes should be out any minute. Ok. Not a big deal. We wait longer. And longer. And finally it’s explained to us that the potatoes would be another 20 minutes! Apparently they had to bake them. Incredibly frustrating. We would have picked something else! So. They offered to bring us something else but at this point, everyone was almost finished eating so we just decided not to eat. The chicken fried steak was REALLY tough and overcooked. All of this is bad enough but the worst part of our trip was something we found in the bathroom that I won’t even share on here. Happy to send it to a manger or owner if one wants me to, because we sure did get a picture. It was disgusting and had clearly been there a while.
This was the only place open in Ozona at this time so we had no choice, but we will not be eating here again. We were visiting Ozona for the day, but we know this restaurant was once a great spot. It is now super dated, dingy, and very...
Read moreLast night we went here to eat for the first time... the dining area was full so we sat in the bar area... the waitress/ bartender greeted us and took our drink order (water and tea)... we ordered fried fish and marinated steak cubes (dinner portion)... my boyfriend said the fish was really good but my steak bites was kinda tough and wayyyyy over black peppered!!!! It comes with mushrooms and onions cooked with the steak so I told the waitress no onions... instead I got onions and no mushrooms and the waitress kept saying sorry sorry I put it on the ticket no onions... we waited forever for drink refills bc people kept piling in but there was only one waitress which was also the bartender!!!! We both ordered mashed potatoes but we didnt recieve any gravy... plus the waitress was to busy to ask for some so we just ate it anyway... pretty good either way... I had to walk to the bar to get my check which took the better part of 10 mins to get to me bc there was so many ppl and she was having trouble keeping up!!! Sweet girl but super overwhelmed with too much!!!! I get my ticket and she charged me 21.99 for my steak cubes which was only 17.99... I asked her why and she told me she got my order confused with somebody else's sirloin so she gave me $4 out of the register to make up for it... I personally think if you have a restuarant/ bar that sells food til 10 keep a waitress until the kitchen closes!!! Especially on a Friday night!!! We will give it another chance and I'll update my review but until then I'm not pleased.
Update: happened to be a off night... never had a problem after that night and went there the better part of 20 times after the 1st post......
Read moreOnly steakhouse in town. I’ve had some bad experiences before, but this is by far the worst. It’s almost like they didn’t want me there and did everything they could to make sure I didn’t return. There were 3 tables in my area including mine and two servers. After the small portions of food arrived there was no return “how is everything” question. I ran out of water and wine and the other two tables were refilled twice with polite conversation while the servers intentionally didn’t glance my way. I’m a very patient person and thought I was imagining it so I waited and gave them ample opportunity to at least ask. Nothing. The steak had no seasoning or flavor giving the impression it was removed from whatever package it was in when raw and the heated up dropped on the floor, picked up and put on my plate. You know those small towns full of good ol’ boys? Normally they’re just that, good ol’ boy’s. Hitchin’ Post Steak House is more like a place where if they don’t like you or you’re not a local, they INTENTIONALLY don’t make feel welcome and do whatever they can to be sure you don’t come back. I live in Texas and having Hitchin’ Post represent what Texas is like is an embarrassment to the good people of Texas. Their reverse marketing does work because you couldn’t pay me to return to such a god awful, small minded, and intentionally pathetic establishment. I hope they reap what they’ve sown and after this generation dies off so will the business. To top it off, you can’t order beer or wine unless you pay an extra $5.00 to join their “club” so they can lie to the state to keep their...
