I am new to Lake County and to Painesville. I've been here a year and come from Lucas County in the Toledo area. I'm comparing this restaurant with what I was used to in Toledo in terms of Chinese food. I've driven past this place at least 10 times and yesterday I decided to try it for my dinner for the first time. I wanted to really give this restaurant high marks but in all honesty I could not. First, let's talk about the atmosphere. So much more could be done with seating! The place looked like the tables and chairs had been removed. This was Sunday afternoon around 6 pm so maybe they had for cleaning purposes. If so, they should have put up a sign telling customers. Second, let's talk about the service. There were three people behind the counter ... two males and a female. The two males were cooking and the woman was preparing pick up orders. I entered the restaurant 4 minutes before my pick up, online order was to be ready. I thought that I would pay by credit card a bit early. I did and received my food on time. I don't know if it was the language barrier or what but my observations were the all three of them did not want to be there. No greeting when I came in, no smiles, nothing. At least greet me and say that it will be 4-5 minutes before my order is ready. Don't leave me standing there at the counter wondering if I am invisible. Third, let's talk about the food. I ordered hot and sour soup, an egg roll, and sweet and sour chicken. Like in Toledo, I was expecting that the sweet and sour chicken would include onions, green peppers, pineapples, strawberries, and rice. I was very disappointed to find that the sweet and sour chicken only included deep fried chicken and a small container of rice. Don't get this dish if you are concerned about eating deep, friend, battered chicken. The red sauce, that was the sweet and sour, was plentiful and very tasty. The egg roll and the soup were average at best. I will try the China House one more time and order something different. Some advice for the China House, start adding onions, green peppers, pineapple, and strawberries to the sweet and sour chicken. Perhaps add them on the side for those that like the dish...
Read moreI ordered the Szechuan chicken combo, extra spicy with chicken fingers and wonton soup. It came with the combo came with pork fried rice and egg roll. The egg roll and wonton soup was quite good. The chicken fingers were slightly overcooked, but not terrible.
The Szechuan chicken however was not spicy or extra spicy as requested. I found two hard red peppers in it which I assume were supposed to make it spicy but they did not, but my main issue is this was supposed to be a Szechuan chicken dinner. All the components were there except the sauce. It had something pretending to be Szechuan sauce, but judging by the taste of it it was 1 part Szechuan sauce to 99 parts oil. It tasted like someone poured deep fryer oil onto the dinner and called it Szechuan sauce.
I think everyone who rated this place high and said the food was great should get checked for COVID because they obviously lost their...
Read moreFirst let me state I am from Collinwood east side of Cleveland. Home of China Mountain and first wok. If possible please seek their advice. Ridiculous to purchase ham fried rice and have so much space left in container. How much could the price of rice have increased that you have to portion it this way. Also I like fried rice, not yellow rice with some things added. Not to mention the five little pieces of ham in it. Please if you are unaware of how to grow and keep your business growing successful. I would refer you to the before mentioned successful restaurants. Please seek advice. Not happy with food ( portion or taste), price( only because of portion and taste) or customer service. Want good Chinese food? Make the trip to the east side of Cleveland. I do, was just seeing if I could possibly find good food closer to where I live now. Trust me, you...
