Gartman Model Bakery — Restaurant in Painesville

My family has been buying from Gartman's for three generations, and I can think of no other place I'd rather go.

First, I will admit that my experience is limited to their donuts and cakes. If you are looking for a review on other items...sorry, this isn't going to help.

Their donuts are outstanding, especially the creme filled. Unlike Dunkin, Gartman's donuts taste fresh-baked, and are incredibly rich and filling.

But the cakes are what keep us coming back. I would recommend the white cake with the white frosting...the chocolate is good, but nothing special. The white cakes with the white frosting, however, are a family favorite, and keep us driving from the other side of Lake county to buy for birthdays and special occasions. We even have relatives from out of state who, when they visit, hint at how wonderful it would be to have a Gartman's cake, and we have taken some with us as a surprise when we travel out of state.

Their cake is great, it is inexpensive (especially compared to many of the tasteless grocery store bakery cakes), and is well worth the visit.

And the smell of the store, when you step in, is beyond description...it smells...

I was in your donut shop this morning and I don't feel that that lady is at the counter is very friendly she wasn't very helpful at all I had an encounter with another customer but over her because she's saying that I was not very nice but I think I was very nice I just don't feel like I should have been treated the way I was when I was in your establishment she 0ver charge me on my order I been in here. Before and this same lady older blond hair didn't look like she wanted to be there I did not have a good impression of her sorry but if I was out of line I sorry but she never. Very to accommodating to my me as. A customer I always refer this Bakery to everyone that ask about a good bakery !plus after I got home I still figure she short change me another dollar I will consider that her top even tho she did not serve it sorry I was a inconvenience...

Have been going here for years. They are super friendly and helpful. However, the quality has gone down on some of their items. I spent a lot of money there just before Christmas and I will say that the donuts, cheesecake and cinnamon rolls were very good. But the nut roll and the cheese strudel were awful. The nut roll tasted like it had some kind of fake can filling or something and the cheese one tasted very fake. Not like the real cheese they used to have. Even their small cheese danish also has this fake tasting filling. Their cheese filling used to be amazing and I used to refer people there all the time. Rather than cut back on great ingredients, they would be better off just to sell the good products. In this day and age, it is a sin that I had to throw...
