Sizzling Wok Chinese Restaurant — Restaurant in Palatine Township

This review is about the Sizzling Wok Chinese Restaurant, 837 E Algonquin Rd, Schaumburg, which I visited yesterday afternoon for the first time.

It is a restaurant of sorts, it does have a few tables for dining in or waiting for your take-out order. I believe it does most of its business doing take-outs.

The nice lady working the register was very helpful in making suggestions and getting my level of spiciness right. I ordered egg rolls and a small order of Mongolian Beef for dining in.

The nice lady brought out a paper plate, napkins and some plasticware and then the egg rolls in just a few minutes. They were perfect...crunchy on the outside, not greasy and tasty inside with shrimp. The Mongolian Beef followed in just a few more minutes and was just on the max edge of spiciness for me, but tender and flavorful. I love all the green onions that were in it. Both food items were brought out very (temperature) hot, just how I like eating food.

One other great thing that I loved was the food was brought out to me already in take-out containers, so I didn't have to ask for doggy bags later. The "dining room" was "nuttin' fancy", just the way I like it because I don't want the owners to be charging me extra to maintain "ambiance" that doesn't do anything to improve the food taste and quality.

We drove to Schaumburg from 30 minutes away to pickup something at the mall. I decided on a whim to try this place. WOW - it is the BEST Chinese I have found since a small place I grew up eating at closed. We ordered the family meal online that included egg drop soup, orange chicken & Mongolian beef with steamed white rice & fried rice. I saw a review about the Mongolian beef being only onions, but you have the option to pay more for more beef. Very tender! Both entrees were amazing and tasted just like the Chinese I have been missing for years. The fried rice is awesome! We got potstickers for the kids and they are homemade unlike most places. And because other reviewers raved about the egg rolls, I ordered 4 and we can all agree that they are the best! My husband went inside to pickup and they appeared to be taking the necessary precautions due to Covid & were very friendly to him. We will be driving 30 minutes to get Chinese food...

Unfortunately, I ordered on Christmas Day and they were ill prepared to operate for the demand they faced.

Along with every other customer I encountered during my visits that day, I was told my food would still be a further hour until ready, despite being quoted one hour when placing the order. Two hours total and only finding out after driving over.

They did a poor job of estimating how long things would take as they accepted countless orders on Christmas.

I had to wait even longer when the order was not correct and a food allergy wasn’t accounted for despite ordering it so.

Ordered the sesame chicken and felt the chicken was lacking. Lots of breading on very thin pieces. Made it chewy. Did have good portions.
