I'd give this a solid 4 stars all around.
The food: I enjoyed the Zuni bowl (spelling?) under "the locals" portion of the menu. The jerk chicken was tender and flavorful, and the other ingredients were complimentary to the dish (black beans, corn, sauce, sweet plaintains). It was a very good portion for the price.
Service: as a 1st timer I had to ask how it works, but everyone was friendly and helpful, so that's not a big issue for me personally. For those expecting someone to come check on u after u get your food, u aren't paying for full service (a waitress). The bar only is full service; otherwise, u order at the counter, get a # and your order is brought to your table. On that note... I dined alone today, so my following comment is an observation, as well as having read it in several previous reviews: tables with 2 or more guests don't seem to get their orders all at the same time (esp when all items are ordered on the same ticket). This is just awkward, esp after it's been mentioned multiple times over the last 2 months (idk when they opened, however). The menu is not large (it's one page, one side), so there's absolutely no excuse for all orders (at least those on one ticket) to not be served at the same time. When I ordered today, there were only 2 parties seated, and they already had their food. My order didn't arrive at my table for ~13mins, and the couple next to me received their order (of 1 zuni bowl), when I ordered about 6 mins before them. Along with my food, I ordered a glass of chardonnay, which cost over half the price of my bowl 😬 (bowl was $13+ and chardonnay was $7) and it was a weak pour for the price. Additionally, it lacked any detectable fruit on the palate (apple, pear, peach). Needless to say, for the price, quantity, and lack of taste, I wouldn't order it again.
Atmosphere: I'm glad it wasn't more than half full bc with the high ceilings, TVs, and people chatting, it's quite loud.
Overall: I'd eat here again, sans the chardonnay, bc I really enjoyed my bowl. Keep in mind this is simple, fast casual, so it's not a date night type place unless u have low expectations and/or don't want to see the person again 😁 Well, either that or you're married and just came...
Read morePassed by this new restaurant and decided to try. While we prefer a more upscale food and service dining experience, the counter order was ok. The food, good, but I do rate it as fast food. The young man behind the counter was very friendly and helpful with my questions on the menu items. I ordered the standard tacos with blackened chicken and upgraded with fries and a coke. I chose the cajun fries, thought would be something different, they just sprinkle a little seasoning on them. They came out cold, even though I asked to make sure they were hot & fresh. The young man went back and brought me out a nice fresh order - thank you! My husband ordered the Kahuna burger and the fries and coke. I give the food a 3 because my tacos came out and it took another 15 minutes for the burger. I didn't like the tacos sitting on top fo the fries either. It is pretty much self serve and they don't check on you so, I don't believe tipping would be necessary. Our bill was around $35, not terrible but not great for fast food. My BIGGEST reason why I wouldn't probably return is the bench seating is very uncomfortable. You are basically sitting on a hard formica counter top. I think they really cut corners on comfort. The back rest has an overlap. The foot rest is way too low (my feet dangled at 5' 6, my 6' 2 husband as well, so all of the weight on this squared off seat presses into your legs. I loved the TVs over the bar with the different funny clips or the surfing, but I think they are hung too high if you are sitting at the bar or the seating at the bar. All in all if you want more of a fun fast food vibe, this is a nice place to go. Loved the vibrant beachy colors with outdoor...
Read moreJust not the vibe I was expecting. Love the decor, but food was, ehhh. Hot sauces were great! Purchased a couple of bottles! It has lots of potential, but I believe this place would better in a downtown setting, where you can walk up, order a drink and an app, get your meal and drink, hang out and keep walking. We love trying new places in the area, and we were looking forward to trying. Not our forte. Great if you want to meet up with a friend and have a beer and a quick bite, but def not a date restaurant. You order tour food at a checkout, pay in advance, get food delivered to your table with a table number, and don't forget the tip. We ordered a couple of empanadas to give it a try and the mojo fries. Not sure what was mojo about the fries, it was just salt, pepper and some spices, and some strange sauce that really did not compliment them whatsoever I was expecting some mojo pork on the fries considering the name. That would have def made it better. The beef and cheese empanada was nothing to write home about. Reminded me of a beef and cheese taquito from 7-11. It's much cheaper at 7-11, btw. The artichoke and spinach empanada was quite a different combo, but I tried it anyhow. Would not recommend. Cream cheese and frozen creamed spinach go better in a dip. Too heavy and strange in an empanada. Try if you like, but I would not recommend it. We haven't tried many other items from the menu, but our first impression on the appetizers was not great. Sorry , we probably won't be back. It's just not the kind of vibe I look forward to after a long week of work. Reminded me too much of a fast...
