Los Poblanos Eatery — Restaurant in Palmerton

This is the Real Deal Mexican food! There are many Mexican eateries in the region, and the majority of them, while good, serve mostly Americanized versions of food, and the menus are similar. So if you want a taste of Authentic Mexican, head on up to this little out of the way place in Palmerton. It's a hidden gem and you won't be disappointed (unless you LIKE generic Mexican!). The restuarant looks like it's housed in a vintage former neighborhood tavern. Soft lighting, cozy woodwork and low Mexican music on the TV add to the ambiance. Our friendly and personable waiter presented us with some tortilla chips to snack on while we decided. These weren't your standard chips, though, as they were topped with a combination of guacamole, black bean and Mexican cheese instead of the obligatory salsa. The entire bowl was quickly consumed. The entrees were equally delicious with nice quantities of freshly prepared food. Our waiter told us that the restaurant is family owned and run, and the food represents the cooking in their native town of Puebla, Mexico. My family was excited to hear we were getting a new restaurant on our side of town. So of course my one son and I went to celebrate his birthday. We were greeted with a warm welcome at the door and seated immediately.

Our waitress was very attentive and genuinely friendly. Our food was prepared promptly. We ordered the chicken chimichanga and the bistec con camarones.

Everything tasted fresh and the meats were nice and tender, the shrimp were huge!. Flavorful, not overpowering. Complimentary churros sundae for my son's birthday was very thoughtful! Interior was colorful and inviting. We are hoping they will add al fresco seating in the Future. Overall an excellent first impression! Welcome to the Lehigh Avenue...

We came looking for Mexican food and we found it. But we also found much more. Los Poblanos not only had the best Mexican food we've found in Pennsylvania, but it tied with only one other restaurant for ANY type of food.

The food was made with high quality, fresh ingredients. It was complex and flavorful with a beautiful presentation. The service was excellent. The price was reasonable. The atmosphere comfortably casual. I wish I could give it 6 stars.

My only criticism is that the menu lacks vegetarian choices. But I believe they would be flexible and offer beans...
