Intereating little hideaway. I had no idea this restaurant existed until my husband told me about it. It is definitely very festive and decorated with a variety of bright colors. There is tons of indoor seating. It looks like an older venue since some of the seat cushions are ripped. But when you walk in, you are definitely greeted with a Mexican vibrant vibe. Our waitress was quiet. She was almost too quiet. ....I can see how some may take that as being unfriendly. We were split on the food.....some of the crew liked their dishes, but I wasn't a fan of the enchilada sauce on mine. The tacos and quesadilla were good. The drinks were not strong at all. I had a double margerita, and it was eh. It made me full drinking it since it was so big, but that's it. The chips and salsa were good. They hold events in a room connected to the reataraunt.... midget wrestling, corn hole tournaments, etc. I heard the wrestling is a hoot, so I may go back and check it out.

We arrived at 4:45 on Friday the 20th of Dec. This place is kinda hidden off of 301. Next to where they have wrestling. We got seated quickly and there were only 4 people at a one other table. Juanita was nice and friendly. She got us chips and salsa which were house made and they were pretty good. Salsa had great flavor. Chips and salsa sets up the rest of the meal so I was looking forward to a great meal. I got 2 tacos ala cart and some Mexican rice. The rice had good flavor and the tacos were pretty good not great though. All topping seemed fresh and meat had good flavor. Wife’s enchiladas were just ok. She was indifferent about them. The house Margarita was not bad for $5, it had alcohol in it and the mix was good. Juanita did a fine job as a server and took care of us. The place seemed pretty clean. The big question is will I go back? I would go back if friends wanted to, but I wouldn’t drive 30 minutes from my house to go there again.

So when you pull in the parking lot it would seem they are not there. Lol I saw an open sign at the very end and realized that was the place. We went for lunch. As you can see in my pictures it was almost just us there. The place is BEAUTIFUL. The food was priced pretty good for lunch. I posted the lunch menu. I wish there would have been more choices. The taste was ok, but the service just wasn't there. Any time we needed something we had to find her to get it. I also asked for a box and my drink to go 2 or 3 times I finally got one box and settled for that. We may try the taco Tuesday everyone talks about, but if the service was subpar when empty not sure it would be worth it when they are actually busy...

Praise: Best salsa and chips ever! I feel like I can just slurp up the salsa and be satisfied.

Location and environment: El Sombrero was difficult to find because Google map led me to a back road... Near some industrial buildings. The outside of El Sombrero was suprisingly lackluster. It needs some TLC. In comparison to the outside, the inside of the restaurant was pleasantly cultural and colorful. The atmosphere is strangely not as lively as I would have hoped despite the colorful furniture and artwork around me. Maybe it is because I went on a Sunday?

Eating experience: Anyways, back to the food. I had steak and chicken tacos along with chips with beans/guacamole/sour cream as an appetizer. Food was alright. I had ordered two steak tacos but I got only one steak taco. And the other two tacos were chicken even though I asked for only one chicken taco. It's OK. I didn't mention the error to the waitress because it isn't a big deal. At least the tacos were good. Compared to everything else I ate, though, my favorite was still the chips and salsa appetizer (which was free).

Price: More expensive than I would have liked for the amount of food I got. If you're trying to do something different with a group of buddies, try eating here once or twice. But, no more than that.

Service: My waitress was nice but she did seem a bit impatient when my friends were indecisive and unsure about what to eat. Maybe I'm overthinking it. She got an order wrong for my friend but made up for it by giving him an extra taco.

Conclusion: Honestly, I wouldn't come here by myself... Unless I was really, really craving for chips and salsa. That was my favorite part about coming to El Sombrero. I expected more from El Sombrero but it was a bit of a let down because of the details...

I am really torn on this recommendations.

The venue for music was excellent. The big miss by the restaurant was a HUGE failure.

I went in at the start of a break from music. There were 2 tables with a total of 10 people between. Food was being served to them one plate at a time.

4 waitresses were standing around complaining about the heat, the parking, the people, and knows what else. Just like unsupervised teenagers would act.

I was the only one at the bar and it took her 3 separate and different tries on my taco salad order. Then come back one last time to check on water. My question to her was how long does it take to make a taco salad, which was not answered

During the entire 45 min it took for this taco salad, those 2 tables never completed being served. I watched about 8 more people come in from venue, and all had to beg for someone to take those order. The entire time 2 to 3 of the waitresses stood at the register chatting about nothing related to service.

I will go back to the venue, but will pack ice chest should I want food.

Such a shame, this place could have easily had a multi thousand dollar day and those waitresses could have easily had a 500 dollar or more day.

Attitudes that are pro self vs positive customer rarely increase revenue especially for service team members.

For the girl with the AK-47 medallion on...

I would leave 0 stars if I could... Took my son there at around 6pm on a Tuesday, I had to pick my daughter up just after 7pm... We weren't even approached by a waiter until around 630 as I say there looking for one but didn't want to teach make it seem bad in front of my 5 yr old son, soon a waiter takes our drink orders at 620, we get our drinks at 630 and I put an order in for my son and I and also ask for a to go order for my daughter... Food gets there at 645 and I request a box and my daughters food because I have to go at this point, 655 comes, no box, no food for my daughter, I go to the front desk and ask for a manager because I have to go, they find the manager who is sitting in the waiting area texting on his phone, he asks me what I want to do, I said pay my bill and leave please I have to go, bill shows up immediately, they never brought a box for my sons food, they never even put the to order in for my daughter, the manager tells me sorry they are short staffed (as he sat in the waiting area not helping)... I reached out to them on Facebook and they read what I wrote and didn't even have the decency to respond... I gave them one week to do so before...
