This is, by far, one of the best Chinese restaurants in the Tri-State area! What sets this run-of-the-mill buffet restaurant apart from the rest is their recipes - unlike other places that inevitably have watered down sauces, New Hunan Buffet has just the right flavor and "sauce viscosity" to each of their food items.
Taste: General Tso's Chicken is famously difficult to make which is why so many restaurants' versions differ greatly. But New Hunan Buffet happens to probably the best recipe for this because they combine the fried coating and tangy sauce perfectly - it's very rare for you to find any of the fried coating separated from the chicken. Their Moo Goo Gai Pan and shrimp variant are also sublime with just the perfect ratio of protein-to-vegetables. Unlike other places, their vegetables have just the right amount of crunch without tasting undercooked.
Selection: You have a large variety of choices when it comes to this buffet. They have two variations of noodles, at least a dozen traditional protein+vegetable options, as well as a giant assortment of finger foods! Plus a huge salad bar an desert bar (and their ice cream is 2nd to Dairy Queen's)!
Price: I've paid anywhere from $6 to $12 for lunch at other places for drab, tasteless food - NOT HERE! If I recall correctly, lunch prices are around $7 and dinner prices are around $9. It is definitely a great place to go if you want alot of food at a cheap price! INSIDER TIP: You can order takeout and get a large container with soup bowl for the same price as the buffet. The container is larger compared to other places - I guarantee you'll have leftovers!
There are a few non-traditional options, such as onion rings, garlic bread, fried shrimp, and baked salmon (equally delicious) but this place, by far, has better options than any Chinese buffet restaurants I've seen!
A fair warning to any new customers: during weekdays, it's best to go during regular lunch hours (11:00 - 2:00) or during dinner hours (5:00 - 8:00). The weekends are fine at anytime but 2:00 - 4:00 or after 8:00 during the weekday sees food staying on there longer (a normal occurrence at 99% of buffets). INSIDER TIP: If you eat during those times, just ask them to make a fresh batch!
If you don't enjoy Chinese food, it wouldn't be a good idea to eat here. Otherwise, if you've ever eaten at a Chinese buffet restaurant, you should stop here because I think you'd agree it is definitely...
Read moreI'm being generous with my stars right now because New Hunan did not impress us at all.
The food was just not good and I feel like anyone giving a review that it is just hasn't ever had good food.
Usually if I sit down to a subpar buffet I can justify the price by getting at least one good thing I didn't find that one thing this time.
The floors were dirty and the feeling of the whole place was the same although the girl clearing tables and things was trying to keep up she never stopped moving.
The reception and seating were courteous and pleasant.
The food I tried was hot but much of it was mislabeled and seems to have been sitting there a long time. For the most part for us it was just taste testing and pushing it aside to try the next thing. Definately was instant regret after the first plate though. The tea was ok.
The only reason it has this many stars from me is that the price, in this terrible Joe Biden dumocrat economy, is pretty good. For 24 dollars with tea and water my wife and I could've eaten well had we chose to continue eating this food. We didn't but...
Read moreI was really disappointed in my community when I stopped by a few weeks ago to pick up some food. It was pretty busy but the woman working the front desk had it under control. She was informing her patrons at the buffet that more food was on the way. One customer started to mock her and her accent. I might have been able to shrug that incident off as just an ignorant old man trying to be funny. But what really got to me was that almost everyone at the buffets laughed (around 12 people)
Anyway I would give that woman 100 stars if I could. She still keep informing the customers when the new food would be available at the same tone even though every time she did, she was mocked. she was unapologetic of the situations she couldn't change as people complained about the wait...
