My husband and I and two of our best friends ate dinner at the Aegean on Sat. Feb 4th. It was not a pleasant experience . I am Greek American and was in the mood to go out for dinner for Greek food and decided to stop in earlier in the week to make sure the ambiance was a good fit for our group. I was greeted by Vaggeli one of the owners who was very pleasant. I complimented that the place looked very new and nice and I was interested in inviting our good friends to join us for dinner that upcoming Saturday. He suggested making reservation which is what I did after getting home to check the availability of our friends. The problem was where they seated us ......we didn't realize was a problem until we got there. Our table of 4 was in front of the entrance door of the restaurant and smack in front of the counter where all the servers stand, where cash register is and where the other owner stood that evening overseeing the room. Vaggeli was not there that night. Our friends arrived first and didn't feel comfortable at that table and asked to be moved but their request were declined. When I arrived I quickly noticed we were put in the worst table in the room so I asked if we could be moved. There were multiple empty tables along the perimeter of the room which would've been much more comfortable for us. We were told those tables were reserved for others. Even though they remained empty for a good amount of time we could tell that we were not going to be accommodated nor were we important enough. The heat vent above our table was unbearable blowing hot air over us. The servers and the owner were basically hovering over our table since there isnt any space between our table and the counter. Reflecting back we really should've left when they wouldn't move our table but we tried to make the best of less than desirable situation. We even tipped generously because we hate to take it out on the servers when they don't make the rules. To make matters worse we were rushed through our meal to order dessert and leave since new people were waiting at the door to sit down which was in front of our table. We arrived at our table at 6:15 pm and by 7:40 pm we were being rushed to pay our bill and leave. I was completely embarrassed since I had recommended this place to my best friends. By the way, the food was just average. Nothing special at all for Greek food. After that bad experience I decided to go back during the week to speak to the owners. Vagelli still was away but I got to speak to the owner that was there that Saturday evening. All I can say is he could care less. We will not go back again. Also to note is there is no easy parking for customers . If you want a wonderful dining experience at a Greek restaurant go to Nisiotis Taverna in Teaneck. Their food is top notch Greek food, ample parking behind the restaurant, the seating arrangement is very comfortable, the staff/owners will go out of their way to make sure you will have a great experience . You will not be rushed through your meal for another party. Its BYOB &very fair prices. We ended up there the following Saturday night with other friends of ours. What a...
Read moreFirst of all: the food is very good and the waiters are very friendly. It’s also a nice place to sit outside and enjoy a meal - which appealed to me since options for outside eating seem to be rather limited in Park Ridge. However, tourists or customers with a credit card that requires PIN entry should beware. The payment system here doesn’t support PIN entry and declines the payment. When my payment was declined, I was unfortunately not informed of limitation. Instead I was told there was no error message and left with a big question mark in an uncomfortable situation.
I instantly called my credit card company and was informed that PIN entry hat been triggered but not completed by the vendor. With this information I called the restaurant again to pass on the info and tried to still understand of what went wrong.
Was told pretty unceremoniously in a not too friendly manner that oh, the PIN payment doesn’t work, and that my feedback basically had no relevance since the situation had never arose before. So, sorry for the inconvenience and bye.
Considering I’m from Germany being used to rather unenthusiastic customer service, this was still a let down. Getting your card declined is an uncomfortable situation. Being left in the dark about the limitations of the credit card system and then shrugged off after my call (which I got hung up on first), was very unfortunate costumer service and not a good ending...
Read moreThere’s no need to go to Astoria in Queens any more, Astoria came to New Jersey in Aegean Estratiorio.
With all the dining renaissance in NYC suburbia, rarely we go to the same place twice, never mind three times — there is so much to try in our area. Last night was our fifth time at Aegean Estiatorio and we already made plans to go again.
Their meze is delicious and unusual — be it feta accented with serrano peppers, or smoky eggplant, or lemony hummus. The seafood selection is hands down amazing — always fresh catch of the day touched with peppery olive oil, moist and tender swordfish kebabs, lemony flaky salmon or scallops, generous servings of octopus and calamari. What comes from the land is worth the trip as well — tender rosemary flavored lamb chops, perfectly grilled juicy pork or chicken souvlaki. The salads arrive with generous slabs of fresh feta. Their vegetables aren't to be missed either — bitter greens drenched in lemon and olive oil, eggplant and zucchini braised in white wine, potatoes prepared in lemon-dill sauce, and mandatory Greek fries tossed with oregano.
Besides, you walk in like a friend and leave...
