26 Nov 2022: Not sure whats going on at Leon's Donuts. They have been here since at least the mid-70's and the donut were delish than and have been very good up until several years ago. Now quality is spotty.
I got a few donuts there about 2 months ago and they were dry and oily as others have noted. I LOVE Bear Claws and Apple fritters but ended up throwing half of it away, just to dry inside and soaking oily on the outside.
Went there this morning to see about getting 2 dozen for family down for the holiday. Ended up walking away without any. After my last experience and reading on here that dry/oily donuts are common I was a bit more cautious before purchasing. The donuts were not visually appealing, icing was thin, many looked dried out and old. They just didn't look good
This is a prime location for the Air Force base and as noted has been a donut shop for at least 50 years so is a viable business. But when they should be considering expanding to accommodate the increased business from a larger base they seem to really not care too much one way or the other.
I'm not sure they realize that for all the 1 star reviews they lose not only that customer but future customers also.
Having said all that I will keep trying them. Sooner or later they will get new owners who can make good donuts all the time. Than this, to me historic, donut shop will return to its...
Read moreStill delicious! I hadnt been here in way too long (years) and last week felt the urge to stop in. This was the place years ago that made me start liking donuts! Homemade and fresh
TASTE: Their CAKE donuts are my favorite then and now! Lovely icing and very moist!
Blueberry cake donut Angel Cream(very sweet but unique) and Rasberry (my fave balance of sweet and tang) Cinnamon roll - have the cinnamon craving, then yes. But it wasnt the fluffy type of cinnamon roll its definitely more dense and heavy icing.
PRICE: A bit pricey these days but where isnt?... I spent $10 on 4 donuts BUT i think the cinnamon roll was $4 alone so around $2/donut normally.
SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL SPOTS Newcomers: This place has been here through a Cat 5 hurricane that destroyed essentially everything in the nearby Tyndall area... Covid, and ofcourse the last 4 years of insane inflation. Any small business may struggle! This place is awesome . Kudos...
Read moreAfter the rave reviews I apparently had much higher expectations and was disappointed. We have an amazing local donut place in north Atlanta that we love and I of course compared it to that. Service was less than average. The whole set up is crazy. You have to select your donuts through a glass wall that has no holes in it so they can communicate with you. The bear claw was amazing! I went and called 3 days I was in town looking for a red velvet donut and they were sold out all three times before 8am. Cook more if they are a big hit! We purchased 3 dozen for a large group and half of the donuts were dry. The chocolate cake and bear claws were the only hits unfortunately. Maybe I hit it on...
