When I go out to eat at a place for the first time, I have certain expectations. We all do. While those expectations are based on previous experiences, it is important to remember that different people with different visions created those establishments. But those different experiences show us what we want and don’t want. That said, when I experience a venue, I try to be as objective and fair in my assessment as possible. If I draw the short straw and get the inattentive server having a bad night, I try not to hold that against the whole organization. I will most likely try the establishment a second time. However, when I encounter clear restaurant policy decisions that do not match my tastes, I can firmly say that the likelihood of my return is next to nothing.
This establishment has some things going for it. First, the smell is amazing as soon as you walk in the door. It is situated by water, so it has a beautiful view. That is providing you sit in the right place to see it. Our steaks were tender and had a good. My husband’s shrimp were hearty (his word). The salad did indeed make it to our table before our entrée.
A couple of things led to a mediocre experience but could have been different upon a different visit. The server had tables too far apart to pay attention to our table (which was beside the kitchen). My husband’s and my baked potatoes had sat for a long time before their arrival to us. The cheese in our potatoes had congealed into an unattractive glob. And finally, both of our steaks were overcooked.
The following is a list of things that will keep me from returning because it would not be different.
The restaurant is beautiful, the view is amazing and my server was fantastic. Beyond that it was awful. Wait, I take that back the crab legs were actually pretty good.
There was no wait and we were seated immediately at a nice window seat. Another couple came in and sat beside us but did not have a window view. After that another couple came in and requested a window view and as the server walked them over to the window, the server beside me at the table with no window got those people up walk towards the same window table and told the other server that her people wanted to move there. That was so unprofessional. The other couple that had requested the window seat had their hands on their chairs ready to sit down and they were pushed to the side like trash and moved to the non window seat so the one server could put her table there. Completely unacceptable.
As for the food. Very pricey for what you get My dad's 12 oz ribeye was right around $30 you can go to Texas Roadhouse and get a better ribeye for $16 and the same size.
My husband and I shared the largest seafood platter it comes in at like $36. It has oysters, shrimp, scallops, fish, crab cake and crab legs.
The shrimp and the bay scallops were complete rubber. I mean they popped between your teeth they were so overcooked. We ordered them blackened and there was no flavor whatsoever. The piece of fish literally just tastes like air there was no seasoning whatsoever. No blackening taste. The crab cake tastes just like celery. It's obvious that it's frozen because it's in the pre-made shell. Instead of oysters we did get extra shrimp. But as I said before the crab legs were cooked to perfection and they were very good and it seemed like a large portion for 1 lb. It was three whole claws.
Based on the food and the price I will never be back. I may come back to try their barbecue at lunch only because the restaurant smells delicious like a great smoke smell from a smoker. So maybe the barbecue is good I can't comment on that yet.
I did bring up to the server that my scallops and my shrimp were complete rubber and disgusting and even though she was so precious and I adored her she did not offer to compensate us for that and I felt that was kind of wrong. Since it couldn't be eaten. Also the baked potato was hard as a stone. Like it wasn't cooked thoroughly.
All in all it was a big fail for me and it sucks because in this area there's really no good sit-down restaurant. I had high expectations my parents came down to visit and I wanted them to enjoy their dinner but they just did it and neither did we. I'm not saying this the worst place I've ever ate I'm just saying I'm not...
Read moreI guess I should start at the beginning, my family decided to go to rodeo's for my father's birthday. We walked in me my wife my mother and father and my wife has a small dog she takes everywhere and it's certified service dog and the little things doesn't even weigh 5 pounds but very well mannered dog. We walk in and the hostess made a face at us like we all stunk or something and said we can't come in with dog, I said that fine we will order and eat outside and we have certificates saying the dog is service dog, so she leads us to an outside table, I went to the restroom while everyone was being seated. I walk up to the table and there is a man there I guess saying we can be there, I mean we're outside come on, but anyway I'm not going to argue so we all get up and leaving and as we are walking out by the hostess and she laughed and give me a smile like I won you know one of those sarcastic kind of laughs and smile. I told her I will write a review about this and so I am. I've never been in a restaurant where I felt so unwanted and the rudeness of that hostess is unexceptionable. So my opinion is even if you have a dog even if you are not trying to bring it there don't go on principal. They will never get my business ever again and if anyone ask me about the place I will tell them go to another restaurant Panama City is full of them and the staff is friendly not like Rodeo's where seems mediocre food according to the reviews I've been reading. I don't like to write bad reviews but I'm just being honest about my...
