Highlight Coffee - Pasadena — Restaurant in Pasadena

I have come to this coffee shop over 5 and out of those 5 times I’ve always had a a very rogue service experience. I order the same coffee lemonade and nothing else and usually get that coffee lemonade wishing 1 minute of ordering.. But, there is a pattern that I noticed, I always say “goodmorning or afternoon” before ordering to acknowledge the cashier/barista but out of all 5 times I’ve never gotten a response, even after pausing and saying it again, just a stare. Once I complete tapping my card the barista gives me my drink, I say thank you and then again, no reply..I know that there is a difference between how I feel vs with the truth is but this is not just a coincidence.. a week ago I went inside for two coffee lemonades with a friend and I decided to sit down this morning. I approach the cashier with a warm Goodmorning and again no response but just a head nod of acknowledgment (A win for what I get here usually) routine order and thank you with out acknowledgement and I sit with my friend.. 1 minute into sitting in the quiet coffee shop the cashier approaches us and decides to speak very loudly and ask us if we needed anything else in the shop and we were confused as to why we were chosen out of everyone there it was very strange.. last year I’ve sent an email to the owner about this same issue so i decided to get my own answers by sending in a certain demographic of people in the shop to see what their experience was and they also said they shared the same emotions and experience without me sharing my own first, this lead me to write this review. Please explore other options if you are a Altadena/Pasadena local as this place screams prejudice. There are more better places where you will be welcomed with cheerful countenance and...

Unclear if the man helping us / barista was having the absolute worst day ever - but wow. We came on a Sunday afternoon 2 hours prior to closing, ordered two pour over coffees. I don't expect anyone in the service industry to bend over backwards with a big ol smile (especially not in this economy), but I do know we are easy customers who don't fuss over orders / have tons of questions. So not sure what his problem was.

He was too pissy for us to approach and ask for the WiFi password, so we drank our coffee and left rather than doing the work we set out to do here.

Anyway. Came here to still say, the coffee is good here. Good bean selection too....

Excellent selection of coffees primarily roasted by a company in the Netherlands prepared as pour over. They also have all the traditional coffee house coffee drinks one would expect to have generated by a huge Italian espresso machine, which is on hand if that’s your jam. Prices are what you’d expect for the neighborhood. Seating is basic and mostly wood seats. There is a couch, but you know the deal w coffee house couches, enter at your own risk. Staff seems pretty nerdy, which is to say they seem to know what they’re doing. Definitely on my list of legit...
