I typically go to the Altoona location. This was my first experience at the State College location. It was very busy with a 30 minute wait for a table, despite there being empty tables in the dining room. It was very noisy, due to how busy they were. The food was okay although my steak fries were over cooked and a bit crispy. The prices were reasonable. Our waitress was not very attentive and I had to flag her down several times for refills on our drinks or for to-go boxes. I don't know if there are other days/times that this location would be less busy. Possibly then, the service would be better. For me, I think I'll go to the Altoona location in the future. There's never a wait there and the service is much better.

We decided to visit this Cracker Barrel during our visit to Penn State as we always enjoy their breakfast meals. Our wait time was about 30 minutes and expected as we were there during move in week at Penn State. The location offers Penn State merchandise as well as seasonal items and old fashioned candy and sodas. Once seated our waitress was very pleasant and we received our drinks quickly. However, we waited 50 minutes for our breakfast to be served after ordering. We ordered the Mommas french toast, Mommas pancake breakfast and biscuit Bennett’s as an appetizer that unfortunately came with our meal instead of prior to receiving our meal. The food was good, but, the wait was just too long.

This was an interesting experience recommended by my son who has been living in Penn state for more than 3 years. It is a store plus a restaurant. Everything looks old fashioned yet stylish. The place looks very colorful and the staff are super friendly. I ordered a very basic breakfast of eggs, bacon and grits. Grits is essentially porridge and it was my least favorite item. I left it untouched. The eggs and bacon were done just right. Their Cafe Latte was great. If you want to try authentic American breakfast while also browsing through their very interesting store, you should definitely give this place a try. Highly recommended.

I’m not one to complain about a restaurant or establishment as I consider myself a person who enjoys foods of all kinds and quality. I’ve never experienced something like this.

The wait time was bearable but not understandable. Upon being sat down, we were greeted with a nasty attitude by our server. We ordered our drinks, which came out in crusty and sticky cups. Once we ordered and received our food, we realized that we were given ZERO NAPKINS and UTENSILS. While we understand that they were busy, it does not excuse the fact that we needed to ask a server who wasn’t our server for utensils as our server was nowhere to be found after we received our food. The only time we saw our server was when she checked up on other tables except ours. We were never checked up on.

The food: the standards at which food is delivered is ridiculous. I’m not expecting a 5 star restaurant, but if I’m paying for it, it should be at least something better than I can make at home. Again, I eat and enjoy anything I am served. But this was something else. The ham was rubber, the eggs were rubber and the sausage looked like it could bounce off the floor. The reason we decided to go out was to eat better food than we can cook. Disgracefully, that was not the case. We ended leaving upset and hungry and decided to dine at Chick fil a, which had much better standards and quality(of course).

Once we left, we spoke to two women up front who were very accommodating and understanding of our experience and comped our drinks.

It was the first time experiencing Cracker Barrel and, unfortunately, nothing will change my mind...

I have been to dozens of cracker barrels throughout the country and I can say without a doubt that this is the worst one out there. I went there for breakfast and ordered french toast. My mother had ordered a veggie omelet and a side of hash browns. After she finished ordering, she asked our server if there was any beef or pork in our order (she doesn't eat any beef or pork due to religious reasons). The server assured her there was none and left. Another server returned with out food. My food was under cooked and tasted extremely eggy. My mother received a side of gravy which had pork. We called the server and she took it away. My mother then took a bite of her food and noticed it tasted weird. She looked inside to see pieces of BACON. We called the waiter over and explained the situation to her. Rather than apologizing, our waiter just stood there nodding and asked if my mom wanted something else. Later she came back and said sorry and told us that the cook messed up. A few minutes later the manager came over and apologized as well, and told us she did not know whose fault it was and that she would figure it out. It was then that I realized that the manager and the waiter told me completely different stories. We left without eating and sill had to pay for the whole meal except for my mom's order. It's safe to say that I will NEVER visit this location nor any other cracker...

I usually like going here with my fiancƩ, his grandmother, and her friend. The staff here is usually very nice, and the food is enjoyable. Unfortunately, today was a bit different. Usually, every other time we went here in fact, they're nice enough to give said friend a chair, since she's elderly, has a condition, and is on crutches because of that. She can't stand for very long. There was a long wait today, and she nicely asked for a chair as per usual. We then had the displeasure of meeting the manager for the first time (which is funny, considering we've been here almost every week and have never seen her before) who denied her. We tried to nicely explain that she needed to sit down because of her condition and that they usually allow her to sit, but the manager was incredibly condescending and offered no help nor compromises. I usually hardly ever complain (I work in retail - I understand how difficult customers can be) but this is ridiculous and I can't believe someone would treat a disabled elderly lady like that. Left a bad taste in my mouth, not coming back. There are other places that will actually help her out. It's a shame, the staff are lovely otherwise. Will miss it, but I don't want our friend to be excluded and...
