I would love to be able to say I love this place. However, everything about it is so-so except they do have a good variety of food. It used to be better. However, I heard from someone who knows the owner that they were getting complaints from northerners who were saying they didn't like the southern seasonings! So they started accommodating the northerners and trying to appeal more to them and their tastes. I only go here when I am really in the mood for BBQ. However, I know I am not going to get an outstanding meal. It is just to satisfy my craving. If there was a better BBQ restaurant in this area, their business would be suffering for sure. However, when it's your only choice, you have to make do with what you have. Their vegetables taste straight out the can....especially their green beans. At least put some onions and potatoes in them to make them southern. This is South Carolina. They need to get back to their roots and sticking to traditional southern recipes and seasonings not changing them to accommodate the new transplants. The things I like best is their fried chicken, cake desserts and sweet tea. Their meats are better than their vegetables. Their help is always nice and it is alway clean. They need to focus on keeping their recipes southern and matching this regions cooking practices, not changing to accommodate a select few. If anyone asks about a BBQ place in the area, I would tell them about Farm Boys. However, I would tell them not to expect the best as far as overall taste is concerned. I am writing this not to be critical, but to help them improve as I would love to give them (and send them)...

I would go here again and have been about 15 times over the years and twice in the last few weeks. The staff is always very kind and helpful. Top notch. The fried chicken was a 9 or 10. Wonderful. The crust and flavor was perfect, though the brest was a little drier than it usually is on most days there. Pulled pork, 8 for the vinegar 5 for the mustard. Seasoned well, right bite, satisfying, but needs more smoke, burnt ends, and the mustard bbq is not typical. More like a mix of the vinegar and pepper and light mustard. The baked chicken, and ribs had a similar taste somehow. The greenbeans are canned and sort of bland. Same with the stwed tomatoes. The collards are a little better but not by much. The mac and cheese was good, but not excellent. Same with the corn. The bread was store bought and boring. Thd baby limas were great and so were both types of cole slaws, the pickles, the tea, the white pepper gravy, and the hash. This place is not my all time favorite in the midlands area, but i will go for a good meal and bring friends whenever i am passing by and have the time. If your going by I-26 or headed to Dreher Island State Park, its a solid place to have lunch or dinner. It wont knock your socks off, but its a pretty good southern buffet and...

We were on a road trip to Columbia, and heading back to the Upstate we were hungry and decided to stop in Chapin for something to eat. We saw Farm Boy's and thought it would be a good dinner. Because of COVID we don't eat in restaurants, but this place had a drive thru - even better. My partner ordered the meat and 3 veggies plate, and I got the 4 veggies plate. He got BBQ, fries, lima beans, and something else, with a roll. I got green beans, baked beans, and both kinds of cole slaw, with hush puppies. Neither of us got a drink because we already had them.

The portions were TINY. Like a small handful of each item. There was almost as much cole slaw in one container than the total of both servings of my beans, and my partner didn't get much BBQ either. None of the food was hot, and the fries were stone cold and tasted stale. Worst of all, we got no utensils at all, so when we pulled over next door to eat, we ended up eating with our fingers. The hush puppies (4) were tiny, about the size of an acorn, hard as a rock, and yeah, cold. For this we paid $17. The mustard sauce was good, and maybe all of this stuff would taste great hot, but for what we paid I expected much more. We...

My family has seen the billboard for this restaurant numerous times going back and forth to Newberry and wanted to go for a while. We were in the area recently and stopped for lunch. We got there before the rush but before long the place was packed and busy. The waitresses and staff are extremely sweet and helpful. They checked on us often and gave lots of attention to our little one too! There's more parking on the backside of the building so don't be thrown off by the front because it is small. Food selection was decent. The fried chicken is very good and I like the mixed corn and hush puppies. BBQ was okay. I'm bummed they don't have more sauces for the meats and it isn't so mustard based but that's just my preference. The macaroni and cheese could definitely use more cheese. All in all the food is good but I wasn't blown away. Worth a try though because we all have our own styles of country cooking we enjoy.

Some friends stopped her a couple of weeks ago and highly recommended Farm Boy's BBQ. I was fortunate to stop by today for lunch. The meat and three was only $8.99 so I ordered the pulled pork with mustard based sauce, macaroni and cheese, collard greens and hush puppies. The pulled pork was full of flavor and not soaked in sauce. The macaroni and cheese was really good as well. The collard greens are some of the best I've had in this area. The hush puppies were so good that I ordered another side of them. I'm glad I found this place and will be back often.

It was fairly average for what is available in this part of the country I would probably rate this higher if it had been near to my arrival in this part of the country because I was pretty high on barbecue when I first got here At this point I still like it, but I don’t love it because there are no fresh vegetables and I’m completely over pulled pork even with the vinegar sauce The highlight was definitely the fried chicken here. I would go back to this restaurant for fried chicken any day of the week for me that was the best part.
