Ok first off, if anyone leaves this place less than 5 stars they are wrong and not to be trusted.
My family & I went there for the first time following a Celebration of Life service. We had 14 people in our party and it’s not a big restaurant, but they were so sweet in accommodating us; they moved tables, put our order in together so our food would come out together, and were nothing but happy to help the entire time.
I was looking at wine (they sell wine, cheese, sauces, etc… it’s adorable) & Chef Jon came over to help me; he was very informative and helped me make some great selections. Later on when I was looking to buy more than the 9 bottles my husband and I had already purchased, Criss (the owner) came to help me. He was so passionate and helpful, and taught me a lot in a short amount of time. I ended up buying another 6 bottles and a bottle of champagne! The wines are excellent and very well priced; I thought the total would be far higher than it was. (My husband also bought a huge block of Parmigiano Reggiano cheese & a double porterhouse steak… both look divine.)
Everybody’s food looked incredible. I was finishing a Daniel Fast, so I couldn’t eat meat, cheese, dairy, anything delicious. Chef Jon was amazing & made me a special salad & dressing. It was probably nothing to him, but it was such a wonderful gesture, especially since I was watching everyone at the table eat the best looking sandwiches I’ve maybe ever seen.
On top of it, because mine & my husband’s fasts were ending, I wanted to get a couple to-go sandwiches. Rather than just slapping them in boxes, they took the extra time & effort to make us little sandwich kits so we could make them fresh at home. I just had the Italian & fries, and it was probably the best Italian sandwich I’ve ever had. The bread is unreal. Can’t wait to try the others!
If I could give this place 10 stars, I would. I can’t wait to go back next time we’re down visiting family. The vibe is great, the food is even better, and the entire staff seriously make this place somewhere you should go as much as humanly possible....
Read moreSmiley Brothers left me at a loss for words. My wife and I have lived in Pelham going to the Publix next door for 2 years. I cannot believe what we have been missing out on. From the beginning, my experience here was fantastic. Great atmosphere and super nice people. Bruce was working at the counter and happily shared some of his favorite things on the menu since I had never been in. I also met Mr. Smiley who thanked me for coming. I got a patty melt and it’s the best I’ve ever had. Beef was seasoned and cooked perfectly. It was juicy and had a delicious sauce. I cannot say enough about it. I got a Reuben for my wife and she absolutely loved it. I ordered both to-go and they were still this amazing by the time I got home with them. After I ordered, I was looking around at the meat and cheese coolers, as well as the dry-ager, and wine selection. Bruce was so great, he came around the counter and took time out of his day to talk me through their meat and cheese selections. At Smiley Brothers, you definitely get what you pay for and then some. The quality is second to none. I will be back soon and will be letting my friends and colleagues around the Birmingham area know to come check this place out, whether they want a great meal or excellent meat, cheese, or wine selection. We are very blessed to have a place like...
Read moreI stepped into Smiley Brothers on a Saturday around lunch time. The place was immaculately clean. Very well organized with several features. Large wine collection, Dry Aged Steak dehumidifier, a large cheese collection, attentive and friendly staff, and several offerings of proprietary food products. I ordered two club sandwiches, pasta salad, and beef fat fries. All of which were absolutely incredible. I recommend ordering them hot. In addition I got 4LBS of beef brisket, 1LB of English Bacon, and 4 burger patties seasoned. The butcher brought out the meat asked me how I’d like them cut, let me select what part of the brisket I wanted, and gave me some tips for smoking it. My only critique is it wasn’t completely clear what other options I had. Stuffed chicken, steak, etc. In fact it was a little hard to navigate the meat section without some help and it could be a little intimidating for someone who is just getting their feet wet with dialing in their smoking and grilling ability. Overall, this place gets 5 stars. I’ll be back for a cooler pack which has incredible value. More to...
