Tao Asian Cuisine — Restaurant in Pelham

My daughter and granddaughter were visiting me today and I bragged about how good the food was here. My daughter ordered vegetable egg fo young and vegetable fried rice.she asked if they have house made hot mustard and was told they did. She ordered her plus the hot mustard and an order of sweet and sour chicken and Lobster Ragu. I ordered the house egg fu young minus the shrimp. My daughter paid for her food and mine $56.00. The person who took our orders repeated it at least 3 times. We had planned to get it to go but instead decided to eat it there. When my daughter opened the bag there was No vegetable egg fu young..Again she had repeated the order 3 times to confirm. When we complained that there was food missing we were told "well you didn't get charged for it" at which time her dauhhter came to the register and she asked did we want to order it. My daughter told her absolutely not. At the table I commented to my daughter that she sucked at taking orders. The daughter at the register being in our conversation nastily addressed my daughter who had said nothing while attempting to defend her mother's error by telling us that "she barely speaks English. When my daughter told her that she spoke it when she repeated the order correctly to us. She was so rude all while telling us that we don't have to come back there and that we could leave.That was when my daughter told her that she was going to need her to calm down! My daughter told her that she didn't even live here and that she would never come back. My daughter is also a restaurant owner and tried to talk to her but they were unnecessarily rude. *Update from most recent visit on 5/18/25. I am so sad to say that we will not be back to this place again for a while (or at least until they get rid of the absolute horrible young Asian girl they had working the front around 5 pm on Sunday 5/18/25). This young lady was so rude that we actually walked out right after being seated to go eat somewhere else! She was also at the restaurant on our visit last month and was not pleasant on that day as well. It is too bad because their food is fantastic, but i WILL NOT spend a dime of my hard earned money in any business that treats their customers as poorly as we were treated by this employee. I won't even order take out here because they need to hold their staff accountable, and they do not deserve my business until they do something about it. *original review below! This is our favorite neighborhood family owned restaurant for Thai food! The panang curry is SO GOOD! I am not usually a tofu type of person, but i recommend trying the panang curry with tofu. It may actually make a tofu fan out of you! The chicken version is also top-notch. The beef Thai sticks and spring rolls are also great. It is not at all a "fancy" or dress up type of place and I think they do a lot of to-go orders because they are never packed inside the restaurant (which is a bonus for my wife & I). They also do not serve any alcohol at this restaurant. The service is often hit or miss, but their food is well worth the sometimes underwhelming service you receive (mostly young high school type kids lacking personality). When the owners come out to work the dining area, it is usually much better service. I HIGHLY recommend this place if you like good quality Thai...

This place is probably the best Chinese food in Jefferson/Shelby county. I’ve tried all the rated best and don’t compare. Everyone I ever take is shocked how good the food is. It’s always good, always hot when it is brought out. Some days it looks empty but don’t let it fool you, they have a lot of take out. Now I will agree you will not be treated with overly niceness, and some may think they are rude but everyone is about getting your order and food right. I’ve never had my order come out wrong and I am quite difficult. Me and wife been going there for Over 10 years routinely. ( so much that they usually know what we want upon us sitting down) sometimes they do get slow. But understand that it’s ram by 1 family. Mom, Dad, kids, grandparents. Sometimes only has one server and maybe just in HS. But the wait is always worth it as the food is that Good!!!!

So if want great Chinese food this place is the bomb. If want fake smiles and fast food and food that tastes like mall chinese...
