The only reason we went here is because detzi's was PACKED for dinner. Initially walked inside with no greeting and no clear idea of it being a "wait to be seated" or "find a seat" kinda place. Walked up to the front desk (although it's not in the front) and saw pizza sitting out on the counter, no heating or cooling element meaning it is in the temperature danger zone. If they serve this pizza (there were slices missing, so I'd assume they do) they should never have opened in the 1st place so to obvious health issues. Found ourselves a table and waited 10 minutes before we could place an order. Started to tell her our drinks and walked away before we could even finish! She came back and we placed our order, still not a word was said to us!! Our drinks were slid on the table with a rude undertone and a ketchup bottle was (boardline) thrown at us. I ordered a stromboli and my fiancee ordered a panini. Sitting at the table I noticed the waiter eating (a wrap?) right next to the exposed pizzas with with no concern for food safety. The food took 35 minutes, then took a bite and was COMPLETELY COLD in the middle. The panini was the worst excuse for a sandwich I'd ever seen. IT WASNT EVEN PRESSED! I took a look at the menu.. just the 1st of 6 flaps of the menu has 40 items. Then I see the size of the kitchen and how large the dining area was (about 10/15 tables) and only 5 were filled. No restaurant can serve anything good with this ratio, much like most Italian restaurants in the area. No original ideas here, or any reason to visit at all (just go to the other Italian restaurant RIGHT...
Read moreCounter staff is always very plesent, but food portion and quality is incredibly inconsistent. I've been ordering the exact same thing for years, a chicken ceaser wrap wit tomato, and onion. For some reason unknown to me when my husband orders they will sub the fries out for broccoli no questions asked, but when I order it is either a $3 or$6 dollar upcharge.
I'm fine with a reasonable upcharge but have just stopped asking due to the inconsistent and upsurd level of variation. I now just stick to ordering with no fries and pay the same price I would pay with them.
The wrap itself is also a gamble. Sometimes it's great, others it's skimpy and/or made with dried up chicken thats been sitting around to long, and sometimes it's dosed in so much dressing it's not even edible.
I've gone back to had my food remade a few times and believe I've been incredible polite despite my repeated dissatisfied. The counter girls are very accommodating but the man I believe to be the owner is visible offended as he pushes out a sloppy remake of my original order.
If this place wasn't so close to my home I would write it...
Read moreFirst time I ate here I dined in. Being familiar with this spot when Black's Luncheonnet occupied this space I was pleasantly surprised to see an open floor plan with tables however I digress. I got an appetizer the mozzarella bruschetta which was very good. I also ordered the house special panini which was good but the bread was a little thicker than I would have liked. The panini came with French fries which in my opinion was the best part of my entire meal trumping the delicious bruschetta by a mile. The fries are the perfect combination of soft in the middle but crunchy on the outside and I highly recommend them. I am uncertain if they would travel well. Being a new restaurant in Pen Argyl I was very pleased with my experience I hope it sticks around.
I've included a photo of the bruschetta for your viewing pleasure, also to make your mouth water....
