Donut Shack DINER — Restaurant in Penn Hills

We were out car shopping and we started getting really hungry...like stomach growling hungry! I like to find little hole in the wall ma and pa diners. I googled and this was the closest to where we were. We we're not disappointed!!! Not only was the service and the food phenomenal but it's the cutest little place! We absolutely loved all of the 50's decor. From Marilyn Monroe to James Dean and more. The picture that lit up and the jukebox decor. Especially the sign that said "stuck in the 50's" because even though I am an 80's baby this is exactly what I would envision for a 50's diner. Most of all the adorable elderly woman working all by herself to get everyone's food to them hot and fresh. She was so kind and sweet. I think she might have been the owner. You can sit at the counter and watch her hard at work!! I must also mention that I am not a hot coffee drinker and ONLY drink iced coffee but I tried my fiance's and it was so good I NEEDED my own.

This is such a cool little diner! It’s decorated like a 50’s retro diner, it’s a little small so maybe not best for large groups. They have bar seating and a couple tables. I went there with my parents this morning, I’m from somewhere else but live here and they were visiting. The kids went back to school today so we thought we’d go out for breakfast. I had the French toast with bacon and home fries, my mom had the Big Ben, which is kind of a little bit of everything. My dad had the pancakes with sausage and home fries. Everything was amazing. My parents said the pancakes were really good, and they were HUGE. The size of the plate almost. There were only two employees, an older woman who did the (amazing) cooking, and a waitress. Both were very nice and friendly, and it looks like they have a bunch of regulars that come. I would definitely go here again, it’s not far from my house and it’s in a nice location. Called and placed an order around 11, was told the food wouldn’t be ready until 12:30-12:45 I was fine with that. My fiance gets there my food hasn’t even been started because they mixed the order up. Gave maybe $5 off of a discount bill was about $41.00 orig. he waited another 20-30 mins to get my food everything was fine until he gets home and notice I’m missing an order of pancakes. Tried to go back to get them they wouldn’t even give me them or a refund because they were closing/closed. And the woman was rude as hell about it when they made the mistake. Overall food is okay but not even enjoyable after all that. We were understanding about the delay just to get attitude...
